glad you're amused

well what else is one supposed to be when people don't understand why one would need to take religion to justify going into the separate school system which exists so that people can take religion in school? No point in being aggrevated about it.

They were in my kids classes..... but maybe that is wrong as it is just shoving religion down the kids throats.

lol. yep.. darn school shoving its religion down the throats of families that chose to be there. lol.

It sure is at the Mall....

? which applies to the discussion how?

B---- just told them he needed the maths and if there had to be so much theory in how to be faithful, he'd have to surrender some Altar boy time....

All of a sudden, space was available in the adult version.

Applies as in X-mas (errr) at the Mall.

You enrolled your son in a religious school for a reason. That school has a clearly designed program, and you (and your son) knew exactly what that program was. Religion is required for graduation in ALL religious schools, regardless of the denomination.

So don't complain now, because of this. You knew full well that he would be required to take a religion class each year. So did he know this.

If in fact the math class he wants to take is required to get into a program, let him take it as a summer school class, or pay a tutor to give him an extra class.

My son is entering grade 12 in an Ontario Catholic school. He has taken religion all through high school however now this being his final year he would like to take a math course as it's a prereq for his post secondary studies however it's being held at the same time as religion. We have been advised if he doesn't take his the religion he won't graduate, however if he takes Math he can't get into the course he wants. Is there a loop hole. Don't get me wrong, he has had a great education, and the school has been really good for him especailly when he was going through a "difficult time" however at this point it seems he will have to go back for an extra semester no mater the route he chooses. Why is it that the student's don't need Math all the way through high school however they require religion for all 4 yrs.

Did you consider sending him to another school for this last year? If the school he's at right now refuses to compromise and ends up delaying his progress as a student, why not consider another school?

That way your son could spend his summer doing better things than math. Like working and saving money.

I'd highly advise against that course. Switching schools in the grade 12 year is likely to mess him up and tank his grades. Trust me, been there, done that. You're better off taking one course by corresopndence than having to worry about upgrading a few because he was out of his element.

You do have a very good point. I remember how I felt at that age and I would have felt pretty troubled to change school in my last year of high school.

Who Cares ??

it's a waste of time unless you plan to use it in your work life

Any course you're not going to use directly in your work life could be viewed that way.

As for the 'who cares'.... if you've made the decision to send your kid to a Catholic school, it's usually because you care a little bit about giving them some spiritual instruction. I don't know how Ontario's religion curriculum is laid out, but it would be a real shame to give a kid 11 years of religious instruction and skip the last year which, where I went to school, was the year we realy got deep into comparative religion to give you an understanding and respect for other religions. Sure, it doesn't translate directly into the workplace, but it does perhaps make me a bit more comfortable in a multicultural environment than some.

well I will put my kid into a catholic school only because they're system is better than a Public system (IMO) I happen to be catholic but I don't practice.

but after 13 years of Catholic School, I won't put my kid through Public School.

But I will not make him do anything the school asks. I'll just tell him to "smile and nod" and when it's all over, it's over.

What do you think is worse Ger? being a hypocrite or insulting everybody?:smile:

You tell me old man. The person that teaches a child to be a hypocrite or the man that insults him? The man that supports killing, or the man that insults him?

why? I didn't follow any of the things that my school did when I went?!?

I just became part of the crowd to look it but I never actually participated.

So, you learned to be a hypocrite on your own, or did YOUR parents teach you that, and now you want to pass that down to your progeny. What else are you teaching, or planning to teach your children?
