This will definitely end up in court and assuming the justices are of sound mind, will shut this school down. I really love the double standards in this country when it comes to separation of a state & religion.

Sadly, justices are no longer of sound mind.

This school will flourish and discriminate, prosper and set legal precedents for future political correctness, set example how to take advantage of the sick idea of government-supported multi-culturalism and by doing so, put another nail in the coffin of that almost forgotten entity: CANADA.

It is fine for some pilot projects in public schools, having said that before some get upset.
There should never be a pilot project that would discriminate against any student, and
there should never be a pilot project that would cause children, any children to be humiliated
and singled out, for some perverse persecution. The school board needs to be reprimanded.
The school board needs to be taken to court and its decisions questioned. Most of all this
school board needs to be ashamed of itself.
Dammit this is Canada, or has anyone told the school board that? We do things a certain way,
we demonstrate respect for each other and we do not have religion in public schools.
Furthermore, I think the time has come for the churches and religious institutions, to obey the
law like everyone else. Yes I believe in freedom of religion, as long as the religion believes and
follows the dictates of the law and the legal system of the country. Why are churches exempt
from adherence to the law of the land? Enough already, it is time someone took this issue
to the Supreme Court of Canada.

It is My obligation to make Eve bleed once every month as she made this tree bleed. I must also make Eve stupid, although I created her intelligent.’

There is a Canadian religion where women during menstration are still considered unclean and can`t participate in ceremonies.

Well, Canada has no religion.......but I won't split hairs......

Islam considers women stupid....it takes the testimony of two women to equal one man.

This strikes me as wrong and I don't see how the school board, the province or anyone else can support this unless all the links are grossly misleading. Now I am from Alberta and have had very little (OK nothing) to do with the educational system for over 20 years, so maybe I don't fully understand how things are done in the Center of the Universe but...

A couple things stick out to me:

- religious ceremony during class time. I can see allowances made for kids to attend certain religious festivals/holidays/etc. but utilizing school facilities during regularly scheduled classroom hours is wrong. From the links, even the Muslim Canadian Congress agrees prayers can be held later in the day, so I don't see the urgency.

- segregation of non-muslims and girls. If this is being held at a public school, during class hours, how can barring non-Muslims (who may be curious and wish to observe) be tolerated? Likewise the segregation of girls, with an emphasis on the "menstruating" girls, is totally inappropriate and at odds with pretty much any civil liberties standard written.

- making this compulsory for students. Again, if this was a once a year thing, and something that could be roped into the social studies curriculum, then this wouldn't be a big deal but when a public school board is making any regular religious indoctrination mandatory, I view that as unconstitutional.

Now for the record, I don't have issues with a community group using school facilities for religious ceremonies during off hours: I grew up with that kind of situation with some of the Christian sects who needed space. The schools were available (usually for a small rental fee and the agreement that any mess/damage was on the group using the facility) and various groups used some classrooms on Sunday for Sunday school, or held prayer meetings in other class rooms, etc but again, it was all during non-school hours. But this goes way beyond...

He said the media wouldn't carry this story for YEARS!!! This school board diidn't care because white chicks weren't involved, so why worry?

Immigrants want new community standards as they make up 80% of schools and neighbourhoods. Multiculturalism permits new standards that are undemocratic and even theocratic, like carrying a kirpan knife by Punjabis. It will get tougher to keep religion out of public schools. Ontario almost permitted sharia law to be used in the province. These third world agitators just push push push. Time to kill multiculturalism.
