Yup, there is none so blind as he that will not see.

Tell me, if the cons weren't planning on an election, why the airing of the attack ads over the last 3 or 4 weeks? Why the call to the constituency's to start ramping up for a spring election? They wanted this, and made sure that it would happen. Only the blind would be blaming this election solely on the opposition.

A couple of weeks ago, knowing we've had a pile of snow this Winter, I poured
a couple of five gallon buckets of water down my sump-hole and discovered
that the pump had died. :-(

I replaced the sump-pump. Does that mean that when (or if) Spring arrives,
that I caused it? 8O

I have automobile insurance. Hopefully I never need it. If that day arrives that I do
indeed utilize that insurance, does that automatically mean that I was at fault? ;-)

Was this election a possibility, or more likely a probability? Planning ahead for
that occurance caused it? Huh....maybe. Nobody in politics is innocent on this
front. All Parties have been gearing up for this shoe to drop for quite some time.

So is voting for more of the same

I hear about this so called voter apathy all the time.

What it really boils down to are people too lazy to engage themselves in the process, but still wanting to have the right to b1tch about that which they did nothing to change.

"Why vote? they're all the same. That damn Harper is ruining Canada."

Brainless reasoning.

Apathy? Too much. Idiots who'd vote for a fencepost because it's wearing their favourite colours? Too many. What it really boils down to is some people are just incapable of choosing so they go with the safe and familiar - regardless of some great ideas from the other side.

Canadians go to the polls, again.

Are you a disaffected and angry voter? Planning to pass on election day? Unwilling to play ‘party games’ again? Shouldn’t an election be about hope and renewal?

There is one alternative. Reject your ballot on election day! Make the election a referendum on our political system!!

It is hard for people to express dissatisfaction with our politics other than not voting. But not voting does nothing to fix our political system.

In the 2008 federal election 94,733 ballots were reported as rejected. A Rejected Ballot is one that cannot be counted because it is improperly marked. The easiest way is to make no mark or select two or more choices. Elections Canada reports the number of Rejected Ballots.

This is different from a Spoiled Ballot; one that is altered, defaced or destroyed. Spoiling a ballot is contrary to the Canada Elections Act and conviction could bring a $500 fine or three months in jail. So please do not spoil you ballot, not only is it against the law but spoiled ballots are not reported by EC.

Let’s make this election into something positive by sending the message that we, The People, want to see real political reform, that it is no longer sufficient to just shuffle parties around. A jump in the number of rejected ballots will be a far more productive outcome than any vote for the status-quo parties.

Remember this is the ONLY time you have any kind of say in our political system, don’t mess it up by staying home. Send a clear positive message this election! Don’t mark your ballot!

Don't be so negative. If none of the candidates on the ballot are worth voting for, then at least write in the name of a local resident who is worth your vote. It would still be a spoilt ballot, granted, but at least it presents a more positive symbol by presenting someone who is worthy of your vote.

The best way to have your voice heard is to not vote?

Uh huh.:bs:

So supporting one of the main entrenched parties lets your voice be heard? They will just take it, say thank you and you will hear back from them next election. You have no say since your MP is told how to vote!

A large spike up in rejected votes would send a a clear message, unfortunately that is the best we can hope for.

A number of people have indicated that they will write some message or other on their ballot. That might be spoiling the ballot and that is not what we council. Just hand the ballot back unmarked, that will make sure it goes into the rejected pile.

Also writing in the name of a person may also spoil the ballot.

What are you talking about? All ballots which do not clearly indicate a vote for a candidate are sorted into the spoiled category. There is no pile for rejected... Unless something has changed since I last scrutineered.

As far as the records are concerned your ballot indicates you were too dumb to cast a vote. Better to vote for a fringe party like the Rhinos. Personally I'd rather vote for the NDP or the Green party than spoil my ballot.

I would NEVER vote for a party that will not put balancing the budget as their top priority (outside of helping the poor or fighting a war if one was declared).

All of these parties are economic losers. Fiscally irresponsible to the max - anyone that votes for any of them is a macro-economic ignoramus, imo.

Almost half of the electorate is disengaged. The corrupt, the smug, the inept, and the crooked politician loves that.

If you are too lazy to vote or even attempt to affect change by voting for a party or candidate that is outside of the top four then you deserve the government you get. But go ahead and spoil your ballot or don't vote, it just makes your opinion next year all the more worthless and subsequent whining all the more ridiculous..

The Conservatives and Liberals have the worst record for running deficits. Its a myth that right wingers are fiscally responsible. George Bush cut taxes and raised spending at the same time. Clinton was actually paying down the debt. I don't think Tommy Douglas ever ran a deficit while he ran Saskatchewan.

What is the point of voting if all of the parties will do, in your opinion, more harm then good to Canada?

To me, in that situation, you are doing your duty to not vote.

For if the enough people do not vote - it might open the door for alternative parties to emerge and offer a position that one actually believes WILL do good for the country.

Continuing to vote for pathetic politicians just brings pathetic governments, imo.

And I think all 4 major politicians (to varying extents) are pathetic politicians.

I never said what you are inferring. I don't buy into the (ALL POLITICIANS ARE CORRUPT RHETORIC). We are a democratic nation and someone does not like the parties they can go off and form their own. Like the NDP did, or the Greens, or even the Bloc. Although I don't share any vision with the three I just mentioned, they are a byproduct of a distinct vision, and most certainly did not come about because some lazy sack through up his hands in despair.

I already know who I am voting for.

I am ticked at some of their policies; however, half a loaf of bread is better than starving to death, and worse, whining about it.

That's it for me, Bears sack is way off topic. Where's Karrie with her Jackboots to get this thread back on track?
