Somethings up.

Very low levels of radiation, which are higher than normal but don't seem to pose a health hazard, are being registered in the Czech Republic and elsewhere in Europe, the International Atomic Energy Agency said Friday.

The agency said the cause was not known but was not the result of Japan's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, which spread radiation across the globe in March. The "very low levels of iodine-131 have been measured in the atmosphere," the agency said in a statement. It said such radioisotope will lose much of its radiation in about eight days.

However, an official familiar with the matter, who asked for anonymity because he was not authorized to comment, said the release appeared to be continuing.
The agency said that it was investigating.

"The Czechs are betting heavily on nuclear power and have plans to dramatically increase production — a move that would give the country a place among Europe's most nuclear-dependent nations. They currently rely on six nuclear reactors for 33 per cent of their total electricity. The government hopes to at least double that output.

That's in stark contrast to its neighbours: German Chancellor Angela Merkel's government decided to phase out nuclear energy by 2022 following the meltdown at the Fukushima plants, and Switzerland has followed suit. Austria abandoned nuclear energy after the 1986 Chornobyl nuclear disaster and strictly opposes the Czech nuclear program."

It sounds like the Czechs are thinking that their leap to economic stability could be through nuclear reactors and that the country's safety standards may be sub-standard. Although in reading your post one gets the impression that the nuclear reactors in Japan are resposible for radiation over Europe, the article suggests that Czechoslovakia is the culprit.

Do you think that Japanese nuclear reactor meltdowns are causing radiation level increases in Europe, or do you think that the Czech Republic is sloppy in maintaining safety standards with its nuclear reactors?

Kind or ironic, isn't it, that Hiroshima - the bomb experiment - was repaid by accident with a nuclear meltdown in reactors built on a tectonic plate fault line that blew during a tidal wave ... nine nuclear reactors build on a fault line?

Radioactive dust over Sweden

Low concentrations of the isotope Iodine-131 has been detected in the atmosphere in several European countries, the Norwegian public broadcaster NRK reports.
The countries affected are Denmark, Sweden, Czech Republic, Poland, Austria, and Hungary.
The concentrations are low and do not pose a public health risk, but the problem is that no one knows where the radioactive dust comes from. In any case, it is not from Fukushima, experts at the the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) say.
“We are a little concerned, because there must be a source somewhere,” says an official of the IAEA.

I wonder if those crazy Iranians cracked up one of their dirty bomb ice cream trucks.

Maybe it was those crazy French who had a reactor explosion a couple months ago.

French officials are investigating an explosion at a nuclear waste treatment facility in the country's south that killed one person but caused no radiation leak.
One person was killed immediately in the blast and another was badly burned. Three others were also injured.
L'Autorite de Surete Nucleaire, France's nuclear safety agency, says it appears a furnace exploded at the Centraco nuclear waste treatment site. The blast was completely contained within the furnace, which is used to melt waste.
It's not known what caused the explosion but an investigation is underway.
ASN said there was no leak of radioactive material and noted that while a fire accompanied the blast, the accident was under control within the hour.
"According to initial information, the explosion happened in an oven used to melt radioactive metallic waste of little and very little radioactivity," the agency said in a statement.
"There have been no leaks outside of the site."

Daichi wasn't leaking either so they said. Full on ****ing meltdown but they never lied at all. Not a single word of deception.
