Boy, we are a simple bunch of animals. Our intelligence is only scratching at the surface of any brilliance.

Should never have lost a job over it in the first place. Racist should be allowed and even encouraged to express their opinions. It's much better to laugh at them publicly than have them skitter away in the dark.

What do you say about this?

W.Va. official who lost job over racist Michelle Obama remark quietly reinstated

That's a tough one. It boils down to political correctness vs. freedom of speech. I would agree that losing ones job is a little extreme and possible does more harm than good. What if she is a single mum supporting 14 kids? The mayor deserved what she got, she's in a position where she is supposed to be nice.

I vote for freedom of speech. It's a sad state of affairs when government and the public controls what people can say.
It's not a criminal offence to be 'not nice'. It's a personal choice.

Your wisdom and sagacity knows no bounds! However when a person holds a job paid by the taxpayer there is a standard of deportment that I think should be adhered to such as in the case of the mayor.

I agree, business is business apart from the personal. But the lady to made the 'ape in heels' comment was on her own time when she said it which separates it from business diplomacy, imho.

Well, that's right - we all say stupid things sometimes due to anger, disgust, frustration, thoughtlessness, but it shouldn't necessarily compromise the rest of a person's life.

The nonprofit director whose controversial “ape in heels” comment about first lady Michelle Obama propelled a small West Virginia town into an embarrassing national spotlight has been fired from her job.

The decision to fire Pamela Taylor, who was director of the Clay County Development Corp., comes as officials work to keep closer watch on the nonprofit, which uses government funds to provide services to elderly and low-income residents, by placing it under a state agency.

The move was prompted by Taylor’s November Facebook post, in which she celebrated incoming first lady Melania Trump, while calling Obama an “ape in heels.” Robert Roswall, commissioner for the West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services, told The Washington Post that the controversy exposed loopholes in how the nonprofit was being run.

The Clay County Development Corp., for instance, is required by contract with the state to have open meetings, to respond to public records requests and to have nondiscrimination policies. The fact that those rules weren’t being followed became apparent after the public outrage over Taylor’s comments.

“We started getting lots of reports about different things that we were checking,” Roswall said. “There was little things popping up all over.”
