Cortege travelling along Scotland's eastern coast

ultimate-hdr-camera-20160824.jpg

The royal coffin is travelling along the A90 between Aberdeen and Dundee, down the eastern coast of Scotland.

It will soon skirt the Angus town of Forfar and then drive past Glamis Castle, the ancestral home of the late Queen's maternal grandparents and a place where she is said to have spent many happy childhood holidays.

It was where her parents honeymooned and where her mother, Queen Elizabeth, gave birth to the Queen's sister Princess Margaret in 1930.

Ultimate karma...

A fish and chip shop owner who celebrated the death of Queen Elizabeth II by spraying champagne and dancing outside her shop was pelted with eggs and ketchup by angry locals and driven out of town.

Jacki Pickett, the owner of Jaki Fish and Chip Shop in the village of Muir of Ord in the Scottish Highlands, shared a video of herself on Thursday holding a sign saying “Lizard Liz Dead” and "London Bridge has Fallen”.

We should invite her to become a CanCon member.

Well done, Jocks one and all.

The funeral cortege has made a planned stop in Brechin, Angus, in order to re-fuel and give the drivers a rest.

The journey from Balmoral to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh is 175 miles and is set to last some six hours - they have been driving for four.

Buckingham Palace crowds ahead of King's first engagements

a8d78163-0bdd-4ee6-9b50-1a734488051d.jpg

Whilst we're following the Queen's coffin's procession across eastern Scotland, crowds continue to flock to Buckingham Palace in London, where the King and Queen Consort arrived a short while earlier.

The King will meet with Commonwealth General Secretary Patricia Scotland.

Later, he will attend a reception with representatives from the 14 countries that still recognise the King as their head of state.

Weird. I'm thinking about Scotland and watching Bundesliga, Union Berlin at Koln. The Koln song is to the tune of "Loch Lomond."

Weird.

Cortege finally reaches Edinburgh

The cortege is now on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

Edinburgh's Royal Mile has been stripped of its regular chaotic beat of bagpipes, street performers and tour guides.

In its place is hushed chatter and an air of anticipation.

The best city centre vantage points are full; curious tourists and locals mingle along a seemingly endless line of metal barriers.

Bradley Harkins, visiting from Chicago, says: "There's a real sense that something major is happening. I was at the proclamation earlier and it sent shivers down my spine even though today was the first time I'd heard of any of this."

The Queen's coffin reaches Palace of Holyroodhouse

The Queen's procession has now reached the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh - the end of today's six hour journey.

The coffin will remain at Holyroodhouse overnight and it will proceed to St Giles' Cathedral on Monday afternoon.

The coffin will remain under continuous vigil for 24 hours, with the public able to pay their respects.

Queen's coffin moves into Holyroodhouse, as her children look on

The Queen's coffin was greeted with a guard of honour before being carried into Holyroodhouse. The Queen will remain in the throne room of the palace overnight.

As the coffin was taken into the palace, three of the Queen's children looked on - Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.

King Charles is currently in London but will travel to Edinburgh tomorrow.

The Royal Standard for Scotland explained

a46e437b-092f-4306-ba02-1a5d836074b6.jpg

Her Majesty's coffin will now lie at rest in The Palace of Holyroodhouse overnight, and then proceed to St Giles' Cathedral tomorrow, to allow people to pay their respects for 24 hours.

As we've been reporting, her coffin is draped with the Royal Standard for Scotland - a flag that represents the Sovereign.

Unlike the Royal Standard used in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and elsewhere, the Royal Standard for Scotland features two quadrants for Scotland as opposed to just one on the Royal Standard.

Those quadrants are made up of a gold banner with the Scottish red lion.

It is flown at the Palace of Holyroodhouse and Balmoral Castle when the monarch is not present. When they are in residence, the Royal Standard of the UK is flown instead.

is she going to be cremated? 🔥

She's going to be buried at Windsor Castle.

Her final resting place is thought to be in the castle's King George VI memorial chapel, an annex to the main chapel - where her mother and father were buried, along with the ashes of her sister, Princess Margaret.

Her committal will be televised after her funeral.
