i would say that you can see people from quebec that are racist or restaurant in quebec that have bad services, but well i can say the same thing for every other provinces and country.

in my personal experience i would say that people in quebec are fairly tolerant, but probably not really more that other canadians.

but the image you have of something can be deformed by distance. for what i usually heard, everybody in the west are redneck that wear cow-boy hats. is it true ? i guess not, but until i go there for myself i will not know.

Being from the west, Alberta, I can safely say that very few of us are rednecks, and not many actually wear cowboy hats all the time. I have been to Quebec once, very briefly, but what I saw was impressive. I have been to Ontario, and what I saw there was impressive. Alberta is a young province, a hundred years old this year, and has a young attitude, not taking things at face value, and being very much adventurous. As odd as it may seem, Albertans and Quebecois have a lot of similarities, especially political where we both believe in provincial rights, and getting these rights back from Ottawa. I think that in some ways Albertans and Quebecois are more alike than maybe most would like to admit, and together, I think both provinces have the ability to make great changes on the political landscape in Canada. Unfortunately, it appears that the Liberal government wants to keep the people in the two provinces in a confrontational state, which works to the benefit of the Liberals, but certainly not to Canada. Come on out to Alberta, we'll show you a good time, and prove we don't have two heads. We even have running water and electricity

I've done a bit of traveling in my short life, I've lived in Europe and I visited every province in Canada (huge summer roadtrip!) and I think the old saying still aplies, "In Rome, do as the Romans do." As long as you keep an open mind towards the local culture, and make an effort to speak their language, people are very friendly, and if they aren't, fuck them and take your business elsewhere.

That is a very good philosophy. Kind of the Live and Let Live motto! People from all regions of a country or the world are different, thank God. It would be a terribly boring world if we were all alike, especially if we were all alike like the Rev :p

You are one of the many example of English Canadian intolerance towards Québecers.

Intolerance and racism are pretty close.

It’s sorta like diversity in Canada....Try and go against the grain and see how diverse we really are.

Just like in any society there are a small bunch of fools who try to speak for the majority. I wouldn't worry though, I seriously doubt krayzy-kutie could even pick out Quebec on a map.

When I was in alberta, *censored* frog wasnt uncommon. All Canadians are racist then! Racists bastards!

I never understood the term "Frog” I mean, how is that derogatory? Did someone pick it cause it sounded good next to the word French?

The frog is a very versatile animal and has survived thousands of years (in one form or another) through its ability to evolve and adapt.

I had Frog legs in Paris, they were tasty, but that is the only connection I see with French people and those green amphibians.

Now there we go again. Intolerance and racism are nowhere near the same. I can be intolerant of an individual, but that doesn't mean I am racist towards that individuals race, color, gender, or sexual orientation. However, racism generally has a good degree of intolerance, so maybe we can compromise by saying that intolerance does not mean racism, but racism includes intolerance?

I agree. But this behaviour has to start somewhere... and I believe it should start with how we teach our kids. That is, teach them that even if they see inappropriate behaviour from their coolest toughest friends, it doesn't meant that they have to mimick them too.

I know, it's not that simple, but I can dream can't I?

Frogs were a symbol of French Royalty before the Fleur-de-Lis, I think.

If so, then why is it bad? However I thought the rooster was that symbol?

It isn't bad....The worst they can pin on the French is they didn't want to fight WW2, and they know they are better than everyone else.

The French have the Bluest Blood also, this might have lead to some jealousy and since frogs are swamp creatures, it all just fit together. again

The rooster is a newer symbol....

To me, French pride is really no worse than American pride. The French have a lot to be proud of; I see nothing wrong with that. I think the problem with many English people is that they don't get the French; their culture, the mannerisms and what not.

Really everything you say about the French could be said about the British too.

As for not fighting in WWII, well I don't recall many of the early countries taken over putting up much resistance either.

Re: Quebec %^$@&$

I believe the term "Frog" as in "Frog legs eating frenchy" was used by the british as an insult. Like, calling a jew or a muslim a "pig eater". I guess the british considered the eating of frog as impure or something.

On a similar funny note, if you go to the grocery and buy a can of Habitant pea soup read the label. In french it's "Soupe aux pois" (simply "Pea soup") but the english version is "French Canadian Pea Soup" wich is also another term the british used when talking about the quebecois... :)
