You are done also with Quebec. Probably a good choice as you don't want to learn the language and and don't like the people it seems.

My girlfriend is first-language-french-living-in-Laval-raised-in-St. Hubert-Quebecoise so I like at least one. Actually, I have many friends here but I just think that the government is poorly run and isnt, financially, fair to it's people here. I understand that in a country that gives Quebec a hard time....that Quebeckers must rally together and protect it's province from the slings and arrows.
I would too, but I just don't think that it is fair what the government is doing to it's people to a large degree. Anyway, broken record, I know. I do want to learn the language and I try and, in fact, can speak well for someone that has never spoken it before moving here and understand almost everything i hear.
I just find it very backward here. Just a literal understanding, not trying to insult. Any opportunity to financially exploit it's people....the Quebec Government does it.

I took a course at McGill but I learned more french watching RDS and reading french papers...which I do a lot. I know a lot of french..I understand 99% of it but returning a sentence and putting it together properly is my problem. I have been told that I am functionally bilingual, however not fluent enough to take on a high paying position. Yes, I am educated and Canadian....with the french that I have....I could be a huge asset to a company outside of quebec. Just not enough for here. I find that courses in french don't teach you as well as pushing it day to day in the public, reading, listening etc. That is the learning arena, not courses..the course I took at McGill taught me nothing.

All courses means nothing if you dont practice it, that is the same thing, when i learned english at schools, the better way to learn it, is the street, newspapers like you said, and tv helps too.

On the same note, my sister just moved from halifax to montreal, she pays about 400$ less per month to keep her children in a "GARDERIE", and she says she pays way less for electricy also.So yes there is great advantage to live in quebec.

But i also agree, the road are discusting to compare with the rest of canada, and of course there is also other things that bugs me, and i also know there is nowhere in the world where it is perfect.

quebec should stop telling people outside quebec to put french on their signs if they want to be french-only in quebec.... I think it's really stupid what they've been doing for the past decades... I think the federal government should stand up and tell quebec not to stick their nose everywhere else... I think they should make an amendment to the constitution to ban the language law

I agree with you turubawebmaster, I'd like the Feds to go one step further and stop bi-lingualism outside of Quebec. Why should the rest of Canada fork out money for another language that almost no one speaks outside of Quebec and New Brunswick? Let the provinces decided if they want to be bi-lingual?

I think I have to agree with you guys (not that Quebec sucks of course!)... I also believe it belongs to every province to decide for themselves how to deal with the language issue.

But then I have to ask you, how much are you willing to decentralize Canada and give power to the provinces? What are the risks for Canada? As you can guess from my previous posts, I'm more than willing to totally decentralize Canada. But what about you?

Of course, I don't think Quebec sucks. Neither does any other place in Canada.

Turubawebmaster, most Quebecers are concerned with language INSIDE Quebec, not outside... They are pretty much indifferent to what goes on in the rest of Canada. Nobody with his right mind will expect to be served in French outside Quebec.

But in Quebec, we have language laws that the majority agrees with. If you live here and you've gotta a problem with that, well tough luck!

You make no sense! There's nothing snob about French or any other language. Their are only snob people. It's fine if French isn't important to you, but understand it is for many in Quebec.

I live in Ontario actually a few hours from Quebec and I know how it was the time I took a ride to cross the boundary from Kirkland Lake to Rouyn Noranda... I've been through Quebec another time to get to the Altlantic Provinces... The cops in Quebec are pretty different from Ontario and trust me I don't think I'd be able to handle livign there because you do just one little thing wrong and it costs u... We go there and the signs are only posted in French, but then they complain because most of our signs are in English in Kirkland and Timiskaming shores... I think there is some sort of imbalance with Quebec and the rest of Canada... Dont forget that French is the majority of Quebec but it isn't the majority of Canada...

I just don't like the political views in Quebec

Well that's fine really. If you don't live here, you don't have much to complain about. If you DO live here, maybe you should consider living somewhere else. You seem like you would be happier outside of Quebec...

I think you're right... Ontario is a great place but we get downs too... I consider if people in Quebec aren't happy they should move in Ontario or Alberta... I always thought of moving to Alberta for jobs
