Just to put a stop to all the whining from it. Sure, I'll vote for Quebec to leave. We'd have to kick their clutching hands off our wallets to do so tho:lol:

Typical knee-jerk comment.

Quebec is a 'have-not' province bla bla bla, Quebec depends on the rest of Canada for prosperity bla bla bla. By that logic, Quebec should stay in Canada because Canada is spoon-feeding us?

By that logic, Quebec is stuck in a pattern of dependancy which is anything but healthy, which makes the cause for independance vital and healthy.

``moronic extremists``

An apt term for anyone who is stupid enough to support Bush's war. Luckily, there are very few nowadays.
Hey goph...Stop hijacking every thread for your own personal agenda. You come off like the radical fringe and your points are lost in the annoying clutter you create.

Really?

What are you going to do with limited access to the St Lawrance and the loss of the resources of Ruperts Land?

''Independance'' doesn't necessary mean political seperation. You know I'm a strong advocate of a highly decentralized Canada.

Of course that doesn't mean I'm not a potential supporter of seperation... It would depend on the context.

How would Quebec end up with a limited access to the St-Lawrence?

Actually it was Quebec's idea. Sovereignty Association was an attempt to get the best of both worlds, all the power benefits of being independent but still sharing in the wealth of Canada as a whole.

I'm all for democaracy and if a majority of Quebec's want to go that's fine with me....BUT....you leave with the same borders you joined with.

I'm an "anglo" from QC. I'm in favor of QC going out on its own. I'll vote for it and stay here when it's done. Canada will stay a fine country without it, better even. It's really worth reading Reed Scowen's book "Time to Say Goodbye..." Time to move on and stop running around in circles.

You say Quebec was hoping for the best of both worlds with sovereignty-association. What would Quebec have gained that Canada would have lost?

Why don't you explain your point then?

What would the Mohawks and the US have done if Quebec voted YES in 1995? or in 1980?

Let's just say it would NOT be all the money, sunshine and rainbows you have been taught to believe. A certain segment of society has been left out. They have witnessed as ditches are dug across their hunting grounds. They have seen wires strung where birds used to fly. They have seen parks and golf courses laid out to deny them ancestral burial grounds. They have seen a people make their own language law long after echoes of the tongues of The People have faded. What would YOU do?

Woof!

I'm quite conscious about the reality of aboriginal issues. One of the biggest problem I have with the seperatist movement is that most seperatists don't even think for a second of how the Native nations in Quebec would react. Too many people just forget about Natives...

Simple really.

The St. Lawrence is a of vital transportation commerce to the US. I would even suggest that it would be of more importance to the US then Canada.

The Mohawk have laid claim to much of the banks of the St Lawrence.

It's no secret that there is a little wackiness, if not outright extremism, type thinking in the separatist movement. And so, if the powers that be in Kebec, do not negotiate in a manner best appeasing the good ole boys to the south, it doesn't and shouldn't take a rocket scientist to come to the conclusion that the US would, could and has, in many nations, use clandestine and subversive supplying and instruction to aid an interested and vested third party to do its dirty work and acquire complete control of the Seaway along the Kebec corridor.

That and some of the stories I heard about interesting meetings and such in Akwesasne.

Bingo!

And negated them as well...very dangerous thing to do with a group of people so subjugated and down trodden.
