HARTFORD, Conn. — Police are investigating the death of a dog that was chained outside a Connecticut home in the bitter cold and found frozen inside its doghouse on New Year’s Day.
Hartford police say the dog might have been outside for as long as a month before it was discovered by police. They say the dog’s owner has been in jail for months on drug charges and claimed to have made arrangements for the dog’s care.
WTIC-TV reports that a veterinary report says the dog had been lying in fecal material which was found frozen on its body.
Police said that animal cruelty charges were expected.

MILFORD, Conn. — Police say a Connecticut man killed 20 chickens and ripped their heads from their bodies in a drunken, jealous rage on Christmas.
Milford police Officer Michael DeVito tells the Hartford Courant that Gregory Ulrich, 28, was drinking with a friend, John Budnovitch, 21, when he saw social media pictures of his wife with other people. DeVito says Ulrich became enraged and told his friend to drive to the homes of the people with his wife.
Police say he went to several locations, smashing car windows with an axe and killing the chickens with his hands.
Ulrich and Budnovitch are both facing charges including animal cruelty.

EDMONTON — The Alberta SPCA is investigating after two dogs were seen being driven down a highway on top of a truck bed cover.
Joey Dunbar, whose wife was driving home to Edmonton on Sunday, said the driver of a truck passed them going more than 110 km/h on the Yellowhead Highway so he took some video and photos.
“I probably wouldn’t have worried that much if they were sitting in the back of the box but they were sitting on a slip tank or a Tonneau cover … above the box with no leashes, no nothing, nothing to tie them down or anything,” Dunbar told The Canadian Press.
“The way this guy was driving, he was driving like an idiot.”
Dunbar posted photos of the truck with the two dogs on social media and filed a complaint with the police.
Spruce Grove RCMP investigated, but no charges were laid.
“We’re not providing any formal explanation,” said Cpl. Laurel Scott. “We received the complaint, we investigated it and it did not result in charges.”
The Alberta SPCA said it also received a complaint late Monday and is now investigating the incident.
“Potentially we could lay charges under the Animal Protection Act,” said spokesman Roland Lines. “What gave us grounds to investigate was it seems reasonable that there may have been a violation of the animal protection regulations.”
A section of the regulations states animals must be contained in a compartment and protected from possible harm. It also has rules around footing for animals and not being exposed to undue danger, he said.
If the owner were to be charged under the Animal Protection Act, they would be required to make a mandatory court appearance and could face a maximum fine up to $20,000.
“There’s a possibility of charges, but I think it’s unlikely,” said Lines, noting they will check to make sure the dogs are in good health and then educate the driver about the regulations.
“Depending on the response of the subject, it would probably be left there.”

DUDLEY, N.C. — Authorities say a North Carolina man has been charged with stealing his stepdaughter’s puppy and selling it to buy drugs.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office told local media outlets 41-year-old Christopher O’Neal Eakes was arrested Monday and charged with larceny of a dog.
The eight-week-old Yorkshire terrier was reported stolen from a Dudley home on New Year’s Day. An investigation by the sheriff’s office determined the stepfather of the victim sold the puppy to buy drugs. Authorities said the family who bought the puppy didn’t know it had been stolen.
The puppy was found and returned to its owner.
Eakes was jailed on a US$2,500 unsecured bond. It’s not known if he has an attorney.

Russian bear baiting has come under fire for its cruelty.ZOO DEFENCE
WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT
Russian animal rights activists are horrified — and outraged — by the decision to allow the sick sport of bear-baiting to continue.
New shocking images reveal the “sport’s” twisted nature.
Blood-thirsty hunting dogs are pictured tearing apart chained bears and foxes who are utterly defenceless because of restraints and muzzles. Moscow recently failed to ban the medieval practice.
The twisted films are made at so-called “baiting stations” where the hunting dogs are trained.
There has recently been a backlash from activists who say the practice is cruel. President Vladimir Putin — an avid hunter — is reported to support banning the practice.
But one senator in the Duma compared banning bear baiting to the passing of gay rights legislation in the West.

“We take with humour many trends that are now popular in the West — such as political correctness, the rights of sexual minorities and others,” Sergey Kalashnikov said, according to the U.K. Sun. “This law leads us along the same path.”
As the bloody video is shot, the crowd of yokels cheer and laugh.
A massive protest is planned for Sunday in Moscow.

TAMPA, Fla. — Three Florida men have pleaded not guilty to charges connected to a video of a shark being dragged behind a speeding boat.
Twenty-one-year-old Michael Wenzel and 23-year-old Spencer Heintz, of Palmetto, along with 28-year-old Robert Lee Benac of Bradenton, each face two felony counts of aggravated animal cruelty. Wenzel and Benac also face a misdemeanour count of illegal method of taking a shark.
In a Tampa Bay Times report, Wenzel’s attorney, Stephen Crawford, said none of the men appeared at Wednesday’s hearing in Hillsborough County court. Their lawyers entered the not guilty pleas on their behalf.
The video went viral in late July after a Miami sport fisherman criticized it on social media. Investigators with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission determined the dragging took place June 26 in state waters off Egmont Key.

Cynthia Anderson
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — A Florida woman who drowned a puppy in a central Nebraska airport toilet won’t be punished for violating terms of her probation.
The Grand Island Independent reports that Judge Teresa Luther ruled 59-year-old Cynthia Anderson incompetent to stand trial for the alleged violation and said it’s unlikely Anderson “will become competent within the foreseeable future.”
The judge also ordered Anderson freed.
Anderson had been given two years of probation in July 2015 after pleading no contest to a charge of cruel neglect for the Grand Island airport incident.
She also was barred from possessing animals. She admitted this past May that she’d violated that provision.
Police in Edgewater, Florida, say Anderson had a dog with her when she was arrested there in October 2016 on a theft allegation.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has unleashed doggie death squads to eliminate strays in preparation for this summer’s World Cup.
According to the Daily Mirror, Putin’s pups are alarming animal rights campaigners around the globe.
World Cup cities across Russia are guesstimated to be home to around two million stray cats and dogs. A petition against the slaughter already has 56,000 signatures.
Ekaterina Dmitrieva, director of the City Animal Protection Foundation, and the person responsible for the petition accused FIFA of turning a blind eye.
She described the canine killers as “butchers” and labelled it a “scandal”.
Not so fast. Some of the cities are spending money earmarked for hound hit teams to shelter the animals and neuter them.
Elsewhere, though, poison has been purchased and the cull is about to begin.
In 2012, in the days before Euro, Ukraine used giant incinerators to kill cats and dogs.

LAS VEGAS — Hundreds of animals including horses, chickens, pigeons and turtles have been seized from a Las Vegas home after officials found the animals living in what were described as deplorable conditions.
Police were investigating Monday but no arrests had been made and Officer Aden OcampoGomez declined to identify the homeowner.
Officers found the animals Sunday after animal control officers responded to a report of a horse roaming loose near the home, police Lt. Grant Rogers told reporters.
Authorities removed 13 horses, 150 roosters and hens, 400 pigeons, four turtles and two guinea pigs.
Conditions at the home included filthy animal stalls and horses with unkempt hooves, said Nevada Voters for Animals member Gina Greisen, who went to the scene.
“It’s just sad, it’s really sad to see,” she said.
Las Vegas police in 2016 seized more than 500 hens and roosters when they broke up what they called an illegal rooster-fighting ring. Two men were arrested.
City police in December rescued 164 Pomeranian dogs crammed into a rental truck. They were dirty, matted and covered in their own feces, authorities said.

LARGO, Fla. — Officials at a Florida animal shelter are warning pet owners not to use human hair dye on pets after spending months caring for a small dog that was dyed purple by her former owner and then abandoned.
Pinellas County Animal Services posted the story of Violet, a white Maltese mix, earlier this week.
Officials say when Violet first arrived after being found as a stray, her eyes were swollen shut, and she had obvious skin burns. Once they started to clean and shave her, skin began to slough off.
After three months of antibiotics and painkillers, Violet was ready for a new home. She was adopted by David Anderson, a St. Petersburg dog groomer.
Officials also warn that animals can also be poisoned by trying to lick off the dye.

Teddy the dachshund loves cupcakes.
He’s not allowed any, but they did help save his life.
The two-year-old canine is this year’s ambassador for the Ontario Society for the Prevention of the Cruelty to Animals for the National Cupcake Day fundraiser to raise money for animals, from guinea pigs to horses, who have been abused or abandoned or need a new home.
Just over a hear ago, Teddy was surrendered to the OSPCA with a fractured back hip and broken leg, which had to be amputated.
Home bakers are encouraged during February to hold cupcake parties to help raise money for animals like Teddy.

Teddy, also featured on this year’s OSPCA’s Second Chances calendar, received his operation and slowly learned to walk on three legs, which was no small feat for a long dog with short legs.
Toronto’s Sandy Fairn was monitoring Teddy’s progress online and fell in love with the little wiener dog.
“After the amputation (over a year ago), I knew he was going to be up for adoption. I was first in line for him. I came up (to the OSPCA headquarters in Stouffville) and stayed overnight,” Fairn said.
“He is unbelievable. I thought I was getting a crippled dog, but he wants to run every day and play at the dog park.”
This is the sixth year the OSPCA and other shelters across the country have held National Cupcake Days.
To date, $2.4 million has been raised to help the furry friends and to aid the OSPCA, which doesn’t receive government funding.
The cupcake idea was adopted from an Australian fundraiser.
“We see animals from all walks of life come in bad shape and the work we do is all donor-funded,” said OSPCA spokesman Kallie Milleman.
The OSPCA doesn’t have a veterinarian on staff, and in Teddy’s case and others, animals have to be taken to a vet and the bill must be paid.

“With donations, we can act quickly in the best interest of the animal,” Milleman said.
The OSPCA generates some revenue for adoption fees, but even that doesn’t cover the costs of vaccinations, spay or neutering and micro chips all animals need before being released from the society.
That’s why baking for the OSPCA is the sweetest time of the year, said Mary Berg, National Cupcake Day champion and winner of MasterChef Canada.
“Put on those oven mitts and start that timer to help changes the lives of animals that have endured hardship and cruelty,” Berg said. “The funds you raise will have a significant impact on the animal welfare societies in your communities, ensuring their life-saving work continues.”
To get involved visit nationalcupcakeday.ca to register and receive tips on how to hold your own fundraiser. A cupcake party could be at home, work, school or a church or anywhere people would enjoy eating cupcakes.
The guests donate to the animal welfare society of the guest’s choice in exchange for a cupcake.
The OSPCA just wants interested participants to bake, decorate and sell the goodies anywhere to raise money for critically abused or abandoned animals.
“People love animals and love cupcakes,” Milleman said. “It’s a perfect fit.”

A limping chained dog is seen in a video posted to Facebook.
The OSPCA is investigating animal cruelty allegations against a dog sledding company after complaints were made on social media.
“Concerns relating to a dog sled operation in central Ontario have been reported to the Ontario SPCA and we are following up accordingly,” OSPCA spokesman Kallie Milleman said.
“The society takes all reported concerns of animal cruelty seriously. We want to assure the public that the protection and care of the dogs is our top priority.‎ As this is an ongoing investigation, the details we can provide are limited in order to maintain the integrity of the investigation.”
The dogs belong to Windrift Adventures, located in the Barrie area. A Toronto-based booking company — Toronto Adventures Inc. — directed customers to the company, which provides dog-sledding trips.
Dylan Blake of Whitby wrote on Facebook on Sunday that the conditions of the dogs were “cruel and sickening.”
He said dogs chained to posts looked “sick and starving.”
Fern Levitt made a documentary of dog sledding in 2016 that included the treatment of the dogs.
“I went dog sledding and went behind the scene to see if there were any puppies to play with. I saw dogs that were chained and sick, so I made a documentary of the commercial sled dog industry to make people aware how these dogs are treated,” Levitt said.

A limping chained dog at Windrift Kennel in Moonstone is seen in a video posted to Facebook.
Ontario’s animal welfare organization says it has ordered a dog-sledding operation north of Toronto to provide insulated shelter, clean water, appropriate food and veterinary care to more than 100 dogs on site to improve the animals’ well-being.
The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals began an animal cruelty investigation into Windrift Kennel in Moonstone after receiving a complaint from a couple who visited the business on Sunday.
Natasha Guerriero and Dylan Blake, from Whitby, captured videos that show dozens of dogs chained up in the snow, with one dog limping with an apparent open wound on one of its front legs.
The OSPCA says the investigation is ongoing and that the owner must comply with the orders.
The organization says animals can be seized if the orders aren’t complied with.
Windrift Kennel could not immediately be reached for comment.

EAST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — Two sisters tied down and burned a 5-year-old girl, permanently disfiguring her, in a voodoo ritual meant to rid her of a demon causing her to misbehave, police said. The women also threatened to cut off the head of the girl’s 8-year-old brother with a machete, authorities said.
The boy said his sister was tied down on at least two occasions while the sisters blew fire over her face and cut her on the arm and in the collar area with a needle-like object, drawing blood, according to police. The girl said the women also poured over her eyes a substance that stung.
Peggy LaBossiere, 51, and Rachel Hilaire, 40, of East Bridgewater, denied injuring the girl and threatening the boy, the Brockton Enterprise reported. They pleaded not guilty on Jan. 29 to mayhem, assault and other charges. A public defender for the women didn’t return a call seeking comment on Saturday.
Police say the girl’s mother is a hair stylist of Haitian descent who has LaBossiere as a client and requested the ritual. She has not been charged but is receiving mental health treatment.
The sisters will be back in Brockton Superior Court on Wednesday for a hearing to determine whether they’re too dangerous to be released.
The sisters told police that they have performed “cleansing baths” for family and friends in the past, something that involves chanting prayers, rubbing frankincense and eucalyptus oils and sea salt on their bodies, and burning myrrh, the newspaper reported. Children sometimes get burned as spirits leave the body, they said.
The girl suffered a third-degree burn across her face that will leave her permanently disfigured, police said. She was treated at a hospital and taken into custody by state welfare authorities, along with her brother, who described to police what happened at the sisters’ house over multiple days.
Voodoo refers to religious practices developed centuries ago by enslaved Africans in the Caribbean, primarily in Haiti, where the practices are sometimes spelled “vodou.”

OAKVILLE — Police say a woman is facing charges after allegedly kicking a dog and punching a Good Samaritan in Oakville on Monday evening.
Halton Regional Police say a number of bystanders saw a woman “forcefully” kicking a dog in the chest and stomach in the Lakeshore Rd. W. and Nelson St. area.
The dog was reportedly on a leash, and not acting aggressively.
Police say a number of citizens intervened and the woman allegedly punched one of the Good Samaritans in the face.
Stephanie Moore, 50, of Oakville, was charged with assault and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal. She also received a provincial offence notice for being drunk in a public place.
Police say the dog was transferred into the care of a relative.

Justice may have been down, but she’s not out.
The OSPCA is investigating after a 12-week-old puppy named Justice had her ears mutilated by “some sick individual,” according to Toronto vet worker Michelle Kozak.
Justice was rescued by Kozak in Hamilton after she got a call early Sunday morning from an individual she didn’t want to identify because of the ongoing investigation.
“I went and picked up the dog at 2 a.m and took it to an emergency hospital,” said Kozak.
“It looked as though someone tried to crop the ears themselves. I don’t know who. I don’t know when,” she added. “But they were done. So very early Sunday she was given a pain (relief) injection, pain meds to go home, and antibiotics, and she came for surgery Monday to have her ears surgically repaired. It was quite damaged skin and it just looked horrible, so now it’s a lot more presentable.”
Justice was treated at Roncesvalles Animal Hospital in Toronto during an hour-long procedure by Dr. Henry Skutelsky on his day off.
Kozak posted before-and-after pictures of the poor doggie, an Azores cattle dog, on Facebook and gave Skutelsky “a huge thank you.”
“She’s doing well,” said Kozak of Justice’s current condition.
“Ten to 15 weeks is such a crucial period for puppies, it has such an imprint on how they will be. So she will fully recover but it’s going to take patience and kindness.”
Kozak, who breeds cane corsos herself, said the pup is now in foster care until the OSCPA investigation is completed.
She said ear cropping “is normally done under general anesthetic by a licensed veterinarian.”

Woman alleges she was punched in the head after... 2:00
Kelly Nemeth went out to the grocery store for “fruit loops and raisin toast” for her grandkids Monday.
Instead, she came home with a goose egg — right above her left eye.
Seems she got a little side tracked when she witnessed a woman on Lake Shore Rd. in Oakville’s Bronte Harbour “kicking a dog and yanking his leash” and decided to be a Good Samaritan.
“I love dogs and all animals,” explained the 59-year-old Nemeth Wednesday. “I couldn’t just drive by and not help that dog.”
She got out of her husband’s truck, along with three other witnesses who did much the same, and intervened. What started as a bargain shopping trip ended up becoming more than Nemeth had bargained for.
“I told her to stop hurting her dog,” said the grandmother of five. “It got a little heated and I ended up with a broken finger after being sucker punched in my eye.”
What started as a red bump to her temple Monday was looking purple and swollen Wednesday. “The doctor told me my whole eye will go black but it hasn’t happened so far,” said Nemeth.
But the damage is visible in what Halton Regional Police alleged was a criminal assault.
Stephanie Moore was charged with assault and “causing unnecessary suffering to an animal” as well as “being intoxicated in a public place.” Moore, 50, told me people were misinterpreting what they saw when she was just trying to restrain her 70-pound, five-year-old, white Boxer Romeo.
“I would never hurt him,” she said.
Stephanie Lee Moore and her dog, Romeo. Moore was charged after allegedly kicking her dog and punching a passerby, but says the incident has been blown out of proportion. (JOE WARMINGTON/TORONTO SUN)
But she did allegedly hurt a woman. “I should never have hit her and I apologize. I feel terrible about that,” said the former hairdresser. “I thought she was going to take my dog.”
Nemeth, meanwhile, insisted she was just trying to “protect” the dog.
Recordings of the incident — obtained by the Toronto Sun — reveal a heated, profane exchange between Moore and several other people. The audio also presents the voice of the accused’s son, Justin, trying to calm down his mother.
Man oh man did this story garner reaction when I first reported it in Wednesday’s Toronto Sun. Sorry, to be more politically correct, that should be “dog oh dog” did this create commentary.
Most e-mails were angry responses from people who felt I was tipping the story in favour of Moore. I tried to go down the middle but if that was the appearance, the other side is presented here.
It’s an unfortunate situation and an example of how things can deteriorate to violence when tempers are lost. Halton Police Chief Steve Tanner said this is a matter for the courts and that’s where his officers have sent the case.
This case belongs in front of a judge. Nemeth said she was pleased with the police response and Moore said she was also treated well by the officers.
Photographer Ernest Doroszuk and I saw Romeo out with Moore for a walk Wednesday — appearing to be happy and full of his usual energy.
Saying she’s glad to hear the dog is fine, Nemeth said she’s pretty sure if she saw a “helpless” dog being harmed she would do exactly the same thing again.
But Nemeth admits she would ready herself for a possible “over-the -shoulder” human paw heading toward her eye.

VANCOUVER — A Vancouver Island man has been sentenced to jail for fatally beating a four-month-old puppy.
The BC chapter of the SPCA says Robert Carolan of Duncan was handed a sentence of four months and is banned from owning animals for 10 years.
He has also been placed on probation for three years.
SPCA spokeswoman Marcie Moriarty says in a news release that necropsy results for the mixed-breed puppy show it had suffered blunt force trauma to its head and right rib.
Probable cause of death was listed as related to the rib injury, which stopped the puppy from fully inflating its lungs.
The SPCA’s investigation found Carolan claimed the puppy accidentally drowned after he placed it in a bathtub and left the room, but the society says Carolan could not explain the dog’s other significant injuries.
Moriarty says jail time was warranted in this case.
“It is heartbreaking to think of how much this poor puppy suffered and the terror he would have experienced before succumbing to his injuries,” she says in the release.

JAKARTA, Indonesia — Four Indonesian farmers and a 13-year-old boy admitted they stabbed, clubbed and shot a critically endangered orangutan at least 130 times with an air gun to protect their pineapple crop, police said Monday.
Villagers spotted the wounded orangutan in a lake in the East Kutai district of East Kalimantan province on Borneo two weeks ago. It was taken to a clinic at an orangutan protection centre but died while being treated.
Local police chief detective Yuliansyah said four male members of a family, including the 13-year-old, and their neighbour were arrested last week.
“All the suspects have told police that they shot, stabbed and clubbed the orangutan,” said Yuliansyah, who goes by a single name. “They did it because they considered the animal to be a pest that ruined the family’s pineapple plantation.”
This handout photo taken on February 18, 2018 and received from police in Kutai Timur on February 19 shows the Kutai Timur police (seated) holding a press conference to display to the media four men (behind-in orange) accused of the killing an orangutan. Four Indonesian men have been arrested over the killing of an orangutan shot some 130 times with an air rifle, police said on February 19, in the latest fatal attack on a critically endangered species.
An X-ray showed at least 130 air gun pellets in the great ape’s body, including more than 70 in its head, the Center for Orangutan Protection has said.
Its autopsy found the animal was blinded as a result of the shooting and also had 17 open wounds believed to be caused by sharp objects. Its left thigh, right chest and left hand were bruised from blunt object trauma.
If found guilty of violating the National Resources Conservation Law, the adult suspects face up to five years in jail and fines of $7,400. The boy could face half the adult punishment at a juvenile detention centre.
Yuliansyah said the boy will continue to attend school while the case is underway.
The numbers of orangutans on Borneo and on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, recognized as separate species and both classified as critically endangered, have fallen precipitously since the 1970s. A new study published last week estimated that the population on Borneo has dropped by more than 100,000 since 1999.
Orangutans are a protected species in Indonesia and Malaysia, but deforestation has dramatically reduced their habitat and brought them into contact with farmers and plantation workers who kill them to protect crops and for meat.
Indonesia has lost half of its rain forests in the last half century in its rush to supply the world with timber, pulp, paper and, more recently, palm oil.
In mid-January, an orangutan was found decapitated and shot more than a dozen times with an air gun in Central Kalimantan, environmental news website Mongabay reported. Police arrested two rubber farmers suspected in the killing, it said.

GRAYSON, Ga. — A man Georgia authorities say participated in forcing a goat to ingest whisky and cocaine has been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals.
The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement 28-year-old Sergio Palomares-Guzman was arrested Feb. 15 in connection with a videotaped incident believed to be from early January.
The sheriff’s office says Palomares-Guzman lived on a ranch where he worked as a horse trainer. The release says video shows him holding the goat’s horns and forcing its mouth open while another man gives it substances. That man and a third suspect remain unidentified.
The sheriff’s office says the goat is healthy and has since been adopted.
It’s unclear whether Palomares-Guzman has a lawyer. Online jail records say he’s being held for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

'FUNNY AS HELL': Australian man gets heat for photos of dead baboon wearing sunglasses

Australian businessman Nick Haridemos posted photos online of his trophy hunting, including one where he posed with a dead baboon wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses. (Twitter)
Normally the image of a baboon wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses would be funny.
It’s apparently no laughing matter when the animal is dead…and its killer is posing next to it.
An Australian man is gaining heat online after pictures of him surfaced posing beside a baboon he shot and killed during an African Safari.
The Canberra Times reported Nick Haridemos is seen posing with the deceased baboon along with other animals he trophy hunted. The images – which were allegedly taken between 2010 and 2016 at Charlton McCallum Safaris – were posted online to a message board where hunters report their African animal kills, on photo-sharing site Photobucket, and on Twitter.
Along with the pictures of the baboon were gory snapshots of dead elephants and hyenas.
“Absolutely funny as hell!” Photobucket user ‘nickh’ reportedly captioned the baboon photo on the now deleted page. “The new driver gig was a blast…We did a video clip with Blake wired into the microphone talking and we actually drove off.”
Other pictures include Haridemos’ weapons and one of the businessman carrying an elephant tusk.
The images have outraged the online community.
“Canberra developer Nick Haridemos posing with his latest trophy kill…amazing what money will allow you to do,” tweeted one angered person.
“Another coward, another worthless lump of human nothingness, who feels brave when he kills defenceless animals, and then posts pathetic pics which simply show everyone how stupid and how ugly he looks,” tweeted another.
A spokesperson for PETA Australia told The Canberra Times the images are appalling.
“With boundless opportunities for amusement, it speaks volumes that such people get a thrill from gunning down, and turning into objects of ridicule, other individuals who ask for nothing out of life but the chance to live it,” the spokesperson said.
Humane Society International of Australia tweeted trophy hunting “has no place in conservation and the public is rightly appalled by this hunter posing with slaughtered wildlife.”
Haridemos was vice president of the Hellenic Club – a social club in Canberra. The U.K. Sun reported Haridemos has resigned from the position as a result of the backlash.
The man’s lawyer told The Canberra Times he does not deny posting the pictures, noting he “on occasions, engaged in the activity of ‘conservation hunting.’”
“This is a regulated activity, which is undertaken in accordance with licences and quotas issued by the relevant country, and is conducted in a manner that does not pose a threat to any endangered species,” Haridemos’ lawyer added.
