LA PAZ (Reuters) - Prostitutes in the Bolivian city of El Alto sewed their lips together Wednesday as part of a hunger strike to demand that the mayor reopen brothels and bars ordered closed after violent protests by residents last week.

this has to be the weirdest quote I've ever heard! They want to their families to survive and so they'll bury themselves alive to do it? hmmmm..weird

I'm surprised anyone at Reuters knows prostitutes to get that story - they must have been e-mailed to the comany lol

but here's the problem.....the prostitutes are standing around protesting...lips sewn shut...somebody says 'so what are you protesting?" All they're going to get as a reply is "mmmmhhm mmm mmhhhmm"

I think this was not well thought out...Maybe they should simply have stopped providing services..that'd get the some attention!

they are not on strike, they were shut down.

Well Herman, one set would have been more appropriate then the other set...and would have still left them the ability to vocalize their protest...

filthy minds....are curious minds...and that's a good thing
