Canada's hot spot for crime — climbing 90 per cent higher than the national average — is a northern B.C. city whose population doesn't even break 100,000.

Prince George topped the list of Canadian cities with the highest crime rates, according to an annual survey released Thursday by Maclean's magazine.

The magazine said a 77,000-person city claiming the top spot is a "shameful reflection" of the fact that Canada's most violent cities are located in the country's North and West.

People aren't aware of the continuous very high un-employment in the BC Interior. In places like Prince George, it can be 20% or more out of work every fall winter and spring. More people can go to work in the various bush activities in the summer. But in the rest of the year there are so many without work, UIC and Welfare prop up so may folks, whole neighbourhoods there. We have as a society failed in making a real economy in the Interior, it has not worked. We can't seem to find a way of colonizing our province with sustainable employment in most of the Interior. What is the matter with BC?

This is not the first time Prince George has had this honour and probably won't be the last. It has this honour because many only go there between camp jobs and are looking to blow off steam in any and every way they can. In the 70s it was the drug capital of Canada.

Williams Lake once had that title, it was 99.99% stolen cars. I suspect the same is true of PG.

Its not just only the contractors and lumberjacks, its all the drug addicts up there that create problems for the contractors that are looking for some hooch.... The people there are nuts, its not soley us contractors..... Whites, Natives there all ****ed up there....

I was at the strip club up there with some of the chinesse guys in my company and the locals were hassling them to no avail.... I had to buy the people harassing my friends a round of drinks and then i got them out of there.... There are alot of predators in the city centre....

Staying in PG is like staying in any other northern community, like La Ronge, Prince Albert, Snow Lake or Thompson..... Keep your mouth shut and mind your own business....

I'll ask about the elephant. How much of the problem is caused by so-called first natios members?

First natios, ha. I wonder what the ratio is of first natio perpetrators.

I hope it's most of it. Then you can chalk it up to lazy, drunken savages and ignore it. That's what we do.
The ones I know aren't drunks but they are lazy like me.

That's odd. Usually with a crime rate like this I'm used to seeing a low unemployment rate and lots of transient workers due to a boom in one industry or another.

20% unemployment seems crazy high for Prince George, or are you talking about breakup. Because that's not 'unemployment'. And industry all over the country is used to breakup without the crime rate sky rocketing.

Oh, wow, I missed how necro this post is... lol.

They don't stand a chance. I have 30 years experience twisting their heads until they can't tell if they are punch, bored or blasted. They used to send their new missionaries to me for their baptism of fire. Usually didn't see them out on the street for at least another year after spending an hour at my cabin. I think I am on their black list now. Nobody has knocked on my door for over a decade.

One day, they come and set up a tipi at a Kootenai powwow. They're coming!
I have seen missionaries from many different denominations attend powwows. None have any success. Most are lucky if anybody talks to them. Maybe it is time I set up my own mission to head them off at the pass.

Good idea. You can use your methane power on them!
