HUH?

This must be another goofy California "rool" - I've never heard of debates being limited to specific only candidates seeking office or that all candidates are on
the roster. Perhaps this is only the electronic media - when personal appearance
is the event, I have attended ALL candidate discussions with Q&A at the end.

If "polling numbers reported in the press" are to be used it's a shakey rool to perpetuate in the interview which is inaccurate. Polling numbers are historically inaccurate as everyone finds out after the fact when reality is finally published.

There are many multi-party debates going on in the public and electronic media right now - so I have to question this particular interview as a "candidate gripe" instead of fact. Most candidates are aware of all the rules in each event they participate or apply to participate - and are advised if they are unable to be accommodated.

Sorry but don't understand why she was arrested.

Actually she is probably getting better publicity from being banned than she would from any political debate. That being said I can understand why she was excluded given that Canada used a similar standard during the last Canadian election. Remember Elizabeth May being excluded from the all-party debate on the grounds that she represented only a fringe party?

Thanks Bar

It may be my "second participation in the electoral process" and I am still wet around the ears in some areas but that one befuzzled me.

Looking at the Official Ballot spread out before me the following candidates are listed and I have had an opportunity to see some of them and a few times 'all of them' participate in discussion.

Governor has six candidates: Democratic, Republican, Libertarian, American Independent, Peace and Freedom, Green parties.

Same number of parties represented for Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, Controller, Treasurer, Attorney General, Insurance Commissioner.

Member State Board of Equalization - four candidates only.

U.S. Senator - Six candidates

U.S. Representative - One unopposed (Kevin McCarthy - who inherited Bill Thomas' seat and is well
thought of in Washington and California) - it's not often I see California offering up only one candidate.

State Senator and Member of State Asssembly - one candidate each from Republican and Democratic party.

The rest of the ballotting is local official races.

People who campaign on negatives don't get much admiration from me - I want to hear what they are going to DO FOR THE PEOPLE whose vote they are seeking - not how bad they think their opponents are.

It's almost like people don't want to believe that their freedom and rights have not been taken away. I guess it's not the first time that the "public" has willingly trotted down the road knowing what is at the end of it.
