Probably depends on which province and whether or not you are working provincially or federally. You would certainly get quite a bit more working at Corrections than other jobs that only pay $14 or so an hour. I think all Corrections Branches are hiring and since you have experience, you should be able to get work almost immediately. Go on line and ask what the names of the Provincial branches are for Edmonton. I doubt any police force will take you on even if you have Correctional training, without you having to take 6 months training to be a police officer. Correctional training is less time by far and it sounds like you are already trained. Depending on your availability, you can get more time as an "on call" person than a 40 hour per week person. (here in BC anyway). I think there are restrictions on how often you can say "no" to an on call, call. I don't know a lot about it so I could be quite wrong.
I thought the same thing. Thats why my first reason to go to AB is to get University degree in addition to my college. Hopefully it will be enough for them
Sorry, I have no answer other than my daughter works within sight of the Spy Hill jail8O. I don't know if you are looking at corrections or secutiry. Private firms are probably like anything else there, you almost need to be there in person if they are hiring because they want you to start yesterday.
well right now im working in security on call, since i'm a full time student. But anyways i have around 2 years of experience in this field. Do you think i have chances to get in with what i have now?
Most of the trainees that were at the motel i was at were all inexperienced. They flew them up,put them up in a motel and paid all meals and other things while they were in training at the prison.
Maybe give the warden a call.
