Just imagine a 200 car derailment. Pipes don't derail.....

TORONTO (Reuters) - Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd said on Wednesday it has repaired and reopened a rail line near Jansen, Saskatchewan, and continues to clean up after a derailment that spilled 575 barrels of crude oil on Tuesday.

CP, the country's second-largest rail carrier, said the line reopened late Tuesday night following repairs and inspections. It said an investigation continues into the cause of the accident, the largest of three oil spills for the company in two months.

Five cars containing Western Canadian crude on an eastbound mixed-freight train derailed and one leaked oil, which was contained at the site, CP said.

The accident follows a CP derailment in western Minnesota that spilled 360 barrels of Canadian crude in late March.

Less than a week later, a 400-barrel spill occurred in a derailment in northern Ontario.

A boom in North American oil production has prompted a huge rise in shipment of crude by rail as output has outgrown the existing pipeline network.

The spill may again prompt concerns about the environmental risks of shipping crude on railways and raise questions about CP's safety record as the company pushes hard to cut costs and boost efficiency under new executive leadership.

CP Chief Executive Officer Hunter Harrison blamed previous accidents on broken wheels and a broken rail and said the railway was investing in technology to prevent "avoidable" problems in the future.

I've shifted some funds to CPR and ;) . Both have jumped nicely but I'd rather make from the product rather than the carrier.

A lot of those lines are built on earthwork supported by trestle - like from the 1900's
A lot of the trestles were buried and are ready to give at anytime.

No pipes, no rail. Screw the tar sands.
So we'll pump and ship just the sh*tloads heavy and light crude down the pipes as planned but leave the synthetic sit?

Why don't you go after copper and aluminum with the same fervor considering they are 100X worse than oil sands.

I haven't heard a word about you wanting to put the brakes the Orinoco oil sands that are being burned in the gas tanks and heating oil tanks of Eastern Canada.

Why not Cliffy? Out of sight out of mind?

In the 1950s there was a meeting of world leaders who gathered to discuss the growing problems of runaway population growth, industrial growth and the pollution that would eventually destroy all life on this planet. Their conclusion was to go on as they were because the only solution would be to turn off the machine. That would, of course turn the world into complete economic, social and political meltdown. So here we are 60 years later with a population that has more than doubled and thousands of species going extinct every decade. The air is becoming unbreathable, with respiratory diseases becoming epidemic, and water is becoming undrinkable without treatment. And the future of mankind is in the hands of megalomaniacs who do don't care if you live or die as long as they make as much money as they can before we all die in their industrial waste.

Humanity is racing toward the abyss led by lunatics who value money above life. I am just watching them run by, oblivious to their fate. I used to care about humanity, but now I only care about life. Mother is pissed. She will not let you and those responsible to kill her children. Civilization has become a cancer on this planet and I say screw civilization, industrialization and the mindless consumers who are trying to unknowingly kill themselves and all the rest of us in their mad rush to fall off the cliff. Screw them all and their pipelines, rail lines, refineries and machines that go bump in the night.

And yet somhow the population has doubled and the number of new species discovered YEARLY is 15,000.

Life WILL go on and if man is so evil and horrible why do you want to preserve such a rotten species?

Who said I did. I have become indifferent to humanity's fate. They don't seem to have the slightest inclination toward self preservation. We have an entire world full of people who have become addicted to instant gratification without any thought of the consequences. I have no faith that they will change before it is too late. And I know life will go on with or without us.

Oil is a drug and civilization is a junkie.

A fake grid overload from an alleged solar flare will fix everything.

The strong and those who know how to makes and use tools will survive. It's all good.
