Passenger Booted from Flight After Meltdown over ‘Merry Christmas’ Greeting
Just when you think the War of Christmas was won…the Grinch rears his ugly head.
The new front opened at New York’s La Guardia Airport, where an American Airlines crew had the audacity to decide to wish passengers a Merry Christmas on Christmas Eve. One passenger doth protest, however, and was eventually thrown off Flight 1140 to Dallas after taking serious offense to the holiday greeting.
The situation unfolded as the unnamed passenger–traveling alone–was wished a “Merry Christmas” as he and other passengers boarded the plane, to which the curmudgeon reportedly said angrily to one of the female attendants, “You shouldn’t say that because not everyone celebrates Christmas.”
The agent replied, “Well, what should I say then?”
“Don’t say, ‘Merry Christmas!’ ” the man was heard shouting before stomping past her.
Upon entering the plane, the aforementioned passenger was cordially greeted by another flight attendant who also extended a “Merry Christmas.” as well. That apparently set the man’s fuse completely off.
“Don’t say, ‘Merry Christmas!’ ” the man was said to exclaim before going off on a dissertation to the crew and even the pilots about the choice of holiday sentiment. In an attempt to bring the passenger off the ledge, they tried to calm him down, but he wasn’t having it. After a few more minutes of lecturing, he was escorted off the flight as other passengers broke into applause.
American Airlines has not returned request for comment, but we’ll pass it along if/when it is received.
