The whole point to being a Parliamentary page is to make contacts with political insiders so that you can set yourself up with a good job when you graduate.

Initially, the Senate had only six Pages. Following the First World War, priority was given to candidates who were young boys from needy families. The six Pages were required to be present for every sitting of the Senate

wow, i remember a liberal appointed senator that missed every sitting for over a year because he was at his florida vacation home and couldn't be bothered.

Tonnington was saying that she landed a job recently so it looks like stunt paid off.

I'm pretty sure she understood that lighting a fire under government, media and our own asses was worth losing the position.

In this case, I think her actions would get her noticed and high on the list for the NDP, Green, Liberal, or any number of NGOs.

I think it was a terribly disrespectful thing to do, no matter what you think of Harper. It's funny how people complain about how unruly Question Period is, then they celebrate this behaviour by an employee of Parliament.

In the end, it's a tempest in a teapot, she got the attention she wanted, that's fine.

I can apreciate what you are saying but I am not so sure that anyone from the NDP,Green, or Liberals will touch her. She got their attention alright, but she violated her own personal work ethic in the process

If I asked someone ' when can you start?' and they said 'today'.....while being employed for another......they have hinted that they have no work ethic.

This gal showed that holding a sign was more important than completing her duties.

lets not undervalue the importance of ethics and integrity, the stage of politics is a bit short on this already

when a scientist performs research, they often have a strong hunch or belief of the results, yet it is very important for all scientists - even the ones that are correct - to follow and respect the various processes of scientific investigation. ie they have duties and responsibilities to be met.....ideals can not , and should not supercede.

I think you're missing the point.

She lost her job for having a partisan sentiment. MPs get a way with that all the time, but a page is not allowed to.

So the system worked as it should. Any other pages that do the same will get the boot as well.

By the end of this session paging will be privatized and a 99 year cost plus contract awarded to Halliburton.

Seeing that the Liberals, NDP, and Green parties are trying to work within the system, i doubt many of the more serious members of thosse parties would be very impressed by her actions.

As for NGO's, again, it really dependes on the NGO in question.
