Again SJP, you "assume" the nomination is won on what basis ?

Palin has gone after what every base of support she had left in the Republican party. The little support remaining will leave as soon as another candidate jumps in with a mightier bank account and better crowd pleasing talking skill ( which will not require much ).

Mainly because she is very popular with the Republican base, with tea party attendees, Francis. These are the people who vote in Republican primaries in large numbers. So I think Palin has a good chance of winning the nomination if she runs. I think there are about 30% Americans who think she will make a good president, and most of them belong to the Republican base.

Now, getting 30% vote in the general election means getting crushed by a landslide, but getting the same vote in the primaries could very well mean winning the nomination.

Especially, the conservatives on this forum. Yet for some reason, they never apologize or show him any respect.

Except that Palin's biggest critics come from her party. This is one thing her defenders conveniently overlook while continuing to insist that only libs attack her.

If you recall the democratic convention some of Obahma"s biggest critics were in the democratic party. BIG WOP!
Sucess in olitics is made by trampoling your enemys,in and out of your party of choice.Sadly to do otherwise is to wither and die.
If you follow Canadian politics you will see big newas the wife of former liberal leader trashs present liberal leader.
Not a popular subject with SJP .liberalman ,5paradox and their friends.
But why ruin the party?

Refresh my memory - the only thing I recall is the fact that some did not like a Muslim preacher (forgot the name) speaking in an invocation for the DNC meeting.

What other objection was there??

Palin? Oh, I remember her. She's a real prize alright.
She's the one that claimed to have chats with a Brit Ambassador until someone pointed out that there were no such talks.
She's the one that claimed Kissinger supported her (and McCain's view) that the US should have conditional talks with Iran. Someone talked to Kissinger later and he said he supported unconditional talks.
She didn't have a clue as to what Bush's views about perceived threats to the US were.
She nominated this guy:
[Wayne Anthony] Ross, a colorful far-right lawyer and longtime Palin ally who sports his initials, W.A.R., on his Hummer's vanity plates, was once considered a shoo-in for confirmation. However, his nomination was thrown into grave peril when his opponents presented evidence that he called homosexuals "degenerates," leveled invective against an African-American student offended by a statue of a Klansman, vowed to undermine the sovereignty of Native American tribes, and allegedly defended men who rape their wives. According to two sources close to the confirmation hearings, Palin may ask Ross to withdraw before his appointment comes to a vote.

"She’s back on the trail, with the tumbling hair and tumbling thoughts. The queen of the scenic strip mall known as Wasilla now reigns over thrilled subjects thronging to a politically strategic swath of American strip malls.
The conservative celebrity clearly hasn’t boned up on anything, except her own endless odyssey of self-discovery. And she still has that Yoda-like syntax.
“And I think more of a concern has been not within the campaign the mistakes that were made, not being able to react to the circumstances that those mistakes created in a real positive and professional and helpful way for John McCain,” she told Bill O’Reilly.
Yet Democrats would be foolish to write off her visceral power." (Would be, they are.)

Quite so, Gopher. But they sure get their panties in a bunch when I pay ‘compliments’ to conservative politicians like ‘Messiah’ or ‘Joan of Arc’.

Quite so, Lord High Mayor of Flexible Ethics.

And you'll note that I have not called Obama any names whatsoever, as I happen to respect the man and agree with most of his goals.

I will apologize for any names I might have called him, I do respect him, after all he became President, that alone is no small feat. I do not agree with most of his goals though, at least in how he expects to fund them. I do not agree with how he is running the war in Afghanistan. I do not want him or anyone tampering with our Constitution and Amendments.

That is quite legitimate, ironsides. There is nothing wrong with disagreeing with anybody. I disagree with Harper about almost everything, you don’t see me calling him names, do you?

And if anybody thinks that Obama is doing something unconstitutional, there is a perfectly good remedy for it, the courts. The judges don’t have an ax to grind, and as has been clear in the past, they do not hesitate to overturn the laws if they think that they are unconstitutional.

Courts are the final arbiter of whether something is constitutional or not. So if somebody thinks that Obama is doing something unconstitutional they should take the matter to courts, rather than just grumble about it.

And if somebody does not like what Obama is doing, there is a remedy for that as well. Vote for Republicans in 2010 and again in 2012. But calling Obama all kinds of filthy, vile names (Fascist, Nazi, Communist, Muslim terrorist, a USSR spy and so on) simply shows blind hatred, blind rage, nothing more.

I don't think I ever called him any of those names. I'll let you know how I feel about the Federal Court System after Holder actually does some of his interpretation of the laws. So far he is making me nervous.

Messiah is hardly a ‘name’, JLM, it is an honorific. OK, I use it sarcastically, but still I don’t consider that name calling.

Don't underestimate the power of sarcasm, it can be one of the cruelest of put down, at times much crueler than name calling.

I was not referring to you personally, ironsides, it was a general comment. But Obama has been called all these names (and more). Such names only discredits those who call them.

Oh, I quite agree. But sarcasm is permitted in serious journalism, in serious writing, in polite society. Name calling isn’t.
