My sister and brother both had Suburbans (they each have 4 kids) and they handle like a car. It was a honey of a vehicle to drive. A pig on gas though.

I drive a big Olds with a huge trunk. The only thing I would change is I'd like to have that 6th seatbelt. Although now with the newer cars having airbage I can't have the kids in the front anyway.

The government should be pushing this technology through subsidies, tax breaks, and legislation; but instead they subsidize the oil companies.

Yes I’m sure they do subsidize oil companies, then in Ontario at least they tax gas at around 40% for the people. Go figure.

My dream has always been to move north, buy a nice big still, a nice 4 cylinder engine etc, and get off the grid. Produce my own fuel and electricity. They would probably find a way to get there 40% out of me regardless of what I do.

RE: P.M. Martin - letting

My parents had a Suburban (2wd) that they bought (used) to take the grandchildren to Alaska. They kept it for a few years after the trip but it kept getting stuck on the road into their place. That inevitably led to transmission problems, so they had to trade it in for a 4x4.

I found it was just like driving a pick-up truck.

The really funny thing though? The road they live on shouldn't be bad at all. When I was a kid that type of road was passable in a small car all year around. The RMs don't have the money to maintain the roads anymore though, so when it's wet or if it's winter time you can easily get stuck in the middle of the road in a full-sized truck.

Just as an aside, next to the automotive the next worst societal industry is animal husbandry. Another reason besides mad cow, scary chicken, salmonella, etc., to get off the meat.
