Author of "Hotter than Hell" Mark Tushingham, whose day job is as an Environment Canada scientist, was ordered not to appear at the National Press Club to give a speech discussing his science fiction story about global warming in the not-too-distant future.

There you have it.
PM Harper does what GW Bush does , again - in January 2006 a NASA scientist complained of the same kind of stifling.

"Climate Expert Says NASA Tried to Silence Him"
An open and free debate, or at least information flowing, is essential to saving our planet from our excesses. This info flow being stopped by Bush and Harper, it might be assumed they KNOW something we don't, something so big that it will knock global warming off the importance list.
Even Bush and Harper must understand by now what a threat global warming is, its like removing a person's digestive tract and hoping he does okay. What this thing is that they know must be big. Maybe its something like "faith". Maybe an old prophesy. Maybe visitors from space have talked to them both and told them it won't matter if we have global warming.
Maybe they are both just that greedy and power hungry, but they and their offspring will be living with a damaged atmosphere for a few hundred years. I guess its worth it for them, but its a darn shame for the rest of us.
They must both be removed, over this issue alone, because it shows they are either stopping life-saving information flow, or they are extremist religious wanks who are subjecting all of us to their "faith".
