From the file of useless facts, I didn't realize it was so documented.

There is a claim to the first Hamburger served by Charlie Nagreen in 1885. He put a flattened meatball between two pieces of bread and served at a world's fair. Amazing invention. It wasn't until 1924 that a chef ironically named Lionel Sternberger came up with the idea of putting a piece of cheese on it and calling it a cheeseburger. It was apparently quite a feat. Time magazine wrote about it in 1964..

"...at the hungry age of 16, [Sternberger] experimentally dropped a slab of American cheese on a sizzling hamburger while helping out at his father's sandwich shop in Pasadena, thereby inventing the cheeseburger..."

That was quite an experiment.

Damn guys, I hold them responsible for making me a certificed bloody burgervor.

No burgervor should go their lives without trying a roasted red pepper and brie burger. *drool*

It was one of the most heavenly burgers I've ever had the joy of eating.. caramelized onions, roasted red pepper, and a generous amount of brie. yum yum yum.

And I don't care where the burger originated... I just care where it's going! lol.

Why is it called a HAMburger?
'Cause it was invented in Hamburg, or at least by Germans from Hamburg, according to some sources. Same as the frankfurter, invented in Frankfurt, and Thuringer sausage, invented in Thuringen, and sandwiches, invented by the Earl of Sandwich as a means of providing him with something convenient to eat that needn't interrupt his card games (damn dissolute upper classes), and the cardigan sweater, invented by the 7th Earl of Cardigan...

And we needn't talk about what Sir Thomas Crapper is supposed to have invented. And there's an urban legend that the brassiere was invented by a man named Otto Titzling (i.e. tit-sling) who lost a lawsuit against Phillip de Brassiere(i.e. fill up de brassiere) in a matter of patent rights over a certain female undergarment.

My feelings exactly! I just love fast-food :smile:

Fast food is terrible! I will pit my burger against any fast food burger, my fires against any fast food fries bar none. Take time to savor food and enjoy the company you eat with. The work will always be there waiting for you when you return.

The next step is a smoker BBQ. I saw this type and I'm smitten!



The fire is set in the small side on the left. So there is no flame under the meat which means no flare ups. Just the heat and smoke from the wood fills the chamber and exits via the stack on the right.

Slow cooking steps into the big league here. Good food take time to prepare!

That is indeed a lovely barbecue. The smoker feature is excellent. Just one thing though. Maybe along with the salt and pepper shakers, we could provide an extra shaker of ash. No good barbecue burger is complete with out a bit of ash on it...:lol:

I don't know to many people who don't like a piece of ash every once in a while.;-):lol:

Because you burn wood in it, there is without a doubt that some small amount would make it into the cooking of the meat. I saw a brisket cooked on one of these as well as some ribs. One guy was talking about feeding in different types of wood to start and finish with. Even soaking some of the wood for a day in a mixutre to add accents to the meat.

Way over my head yet, but I like the idea. :snorting:

I was trying to be funny. Seriously, that is a glorious barbecue. Any idea what they're worth? I can still change my mind with Santa......Since he's me...;-)
