So...................you served on Flower class Corvettes????????????????????????

AND figured radar that could "see" a ship running on the surface was a new fangled creation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a matter of fact, we used to tie up just across Jetty 5 from a very modified Flower Class Corvette that had become a fleet auxillary. It was still recognizably a Corvette. They later carved away all of the bits and bobs that had been welded on her and restored her to late Battle of the Atlantic livery. HMCS Sackville is a must-see. Halifax and it's surroundings are super-interesting, too and the trip is worth it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Isnt that a coincidence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was just wondering if Comrade Curious had ANY experience with ships or electronic gear made after 1960!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

His mention of HMCS Sackville is interesting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sackville was one of the early corvettes fighting U-boats in WW2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And Sackville seems to be about the age and vintage of Comrade Curious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sackville dates from the days when oil drums full of explosives were a modern anti submarine weapon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The old corvettes were TOO SLOW to have any hope of catching a Russian nuclear sub!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HMCS Bras D'or was up on chalks beside the subs at the Synchrolift for years. It was fast enough to catch nuclear subs but someone smarter figured out that helicopters were even better at it.

No Canadian ship has ever chased and caught a Russian sub.

Hasn't been necessary.

That's why spending billions on the capability is such a ridiculous undertaking

Bras D'or was roughly the size and shape of a Fairmile.

I don't know how old you think I am but the last Corvette was paid off before the last German U-boat had even returned to Kiel for good.

Can't you tell by his Nom de Plume? He was serving beer! :) Is there a better way to serve?
CC; I wish you'd stop quoting all that ugly beerslop in your responses. You're slipping garbage past my ignore button. In fact I wish you'd just quit responding to that stuff altogether. It wrecks the thread, which is probably the intent.

I generally don't quote him, but as to you request, "D'accord."

Haven't gotten a very good impression of you so far, either, but it's a reasonable request, so you got it.

Is there anyone on the forum you do have a good impression of?
I approach the forum with the intention & hope that discussion will be rational & friendly; about issues, not people. This is often not the case. I can get sucked into responding to silly arguments, insults and general vindictiveness but I'd rather not. I didn't come here to form impressions of people, but hoping to enjoy some interesting discussions.

Any impressions I have formed are based on what people say and some are repugnant to me, as I apparently am to them. Most of those are on my ignore list. Others may be less consistent, and mix coherent thoughtful content with other kinds of post which I'd prefer, but sometimes fail, to ignore.

This is an unusual forum in that it is totally unregulated. This is is the Wild West complete with authentic gun fighters. Debate is often difficult but it has it's entertaining aspects. I belong to another forum that us the utter opposite and decorum at all times is a must. It is far less caustic than this one but it is also stifled in a sort of Puritan way.

Anyway, forget it Jake. It's only the Internet.
