Allowing the bars to be open on Sunday didn't hurt sales either. Had they made these moves when the Gov still owned it (3 shifts is open 24/7) they would have raked in the profits instead of it going to 'shareholders only'.
Cuz everyone knows that the gubmint deserves the money more than individuals.

Ontario government not denying report on sweeping climate change plan - Toronto - CBC News

Worth restating what's coming up for the deniers. Enjoy!

The Globe and Mail says it has obtained a confidential cabinet document that lays out the plan in detail. Among the key measures cited in the Globe report are:

1.) All new homes built after 2030 must be heated without using fossil fuels, such as natural gas.

2.) A target of 1.7 million electric or hybrid cars on the road by 2024

3.) Mandating a five per cent cut in carbon emissions from gasoline and diesel

How could someone like you who knows how to spell and reads give any credit to a forcast that lauds natural gas but denys natural oil? Which incidentally spews up out of the ground regularly like a tree. There is no such thing as fossiil fuel.
There are fossilized posters though.

Or trim the fat and create some organization.

Yes but 'the fat' is merely transferred. Any true savings all a mirage.

They may cut 20 middle managers and a few others but the base cost remains the same and any savings are have to be passed on to the investors. There is no way the Private Company is going to break even or lose money on this as going out of business today would cause chaos and lead to the reformation of City workers and the Union to perform the work.

You have the Private Company in a position where they can hold the City (taxpayers) hostage. That won't be public knowledge but that will happen behind closed doors. The only way to get another contractor would be to guarantee them a certain profit which is the problem because how do you guarantee them a certain profit?

That is why the 'garbage fees' have doubled from 50 to $100.00..

But back to Hydro.

I recalled yesterday someone I knew who some 30 years ago moved into a brand new subdivision in Rockwood, Ont..

It was all electric heat. They of course had always had gas heat and nominal use of hydro so they didn't think twice about the heating system being electric.

I'm thinking 30 years ago Hydro was, at least by todays standards, pretty cheap.

After their first winter they, and the whole subdivision banded together to protest the cost and demand natural gas be installed. I don't know why if wasn't in the first place.

I remember them telling me the cost of heating was dramatic. Something like going from $50.00 a month in gas to $400.00 for electric.

I don't know what became of the protests but I do know that they moved after that first winter.....

100% cut in NG and 5% cut in gas and diesel seems a bit stupid since they pollute more than NG. It should be 80% cut in gasoline and a 50% rise in using NG in a variety of projects including home fuel cells that convert NG to electricity. Hybrid using a 1 cylinder NG engine to supplement battery power for extended trips at high speed, to make that more efficient magnetic bumpers could be used to chain cars together and as a collision avoidance system the bumpers would change to magnets that repulse each other. The police could pull up behind you and 'latch on' so when they applied their brakes it slowed both cars down. Little things like that as the side effects of taking the smart road.

Perhaps we can get Ontario to finish the war with Quebec or start implementing the same things that happens when you lose a war and the invaders are a 'different people' some changes can be expected, not all are welcomed changes but it only hurts for a little while.

That sounds about right.
Does Ontario have the extra capacity of power to convert without finding new sources of power to cover what NG is used for at the present, if not, does private industry build new plants and pass that cost onto consumers or do they buy power from Quebec at artificially high prices and both Provinces reap rewards at the expense the public.

Ontario Passes Landmark Climate Change Legislation

Today, Ontario passed landmark climate change legislation that lays a foundation for the province to join the biggest carbon market in North America and ensures that the province is accountable for responsibly and transparently investing proceeds from the cap and trade program into actions that reduce greenhouse gas pollution, create jobs and help people and businesses shift to a low-carbon economy.

Under the Climate Change Mitigation and Low-Carbon Economy Act, money raised from Ontario's cap and trade program will be deposited into a new Greenhouse Gas Reduction Account. The account will invest every dollar in green projects and initiatives that reduce emissions.

Following extensive consultation with industry and other groups, the legislation was strengthened by now requiring enhanced accountability and public reporting on the province's upcoming Climate Change Action Plan and investment of cap and trade proceeds.

Ontario will post its final cap and trade regulation upon royal assent of the legislation. The regulation covers detailed rules and obligations for businesses participating in the program. The final design was also informed by extensive consultation with businesses, industry, the public, environmental organizations and Indigenous communities.
