Rex Tillerson kind of, sort of just admitted he called Trump a 'moron'

(CNN)Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Wednesday tried to knock down a report that he had called President Donald Trump a "moron" and considered leaving his post over disagreements with the commander in chief over the summer. But, in the process he may have made things worse for himself.

"I want to dispel with this notion that I have ever considered leaving," Tillerson said in an appearance at the State Department added to his calendar following the bombshell report via NBC News that the secretary of state had called Trump a derogatory name over the summer, had considered resigning and was counseled to remain in the job by Vice President Mike Pence.

While Tillerson's denial that he ever spoke with Pence about leaving his post is important, it's what Tillerson didn't deny that may be even more telling.

Asked whether he had indeed referred to Trump as a "moron," Tillerson said: "I'm not going to deal with petty stuff like that."

Ahem. Cough. Ahem.

Here's the thing: If Tillerson refused to directly deny calling Trump a "moron," you can be almost certain he did in fact call the president exactly that. Think about it: If there is a report that you said your boss was "a big dummy" and you hadn't actually said that, wouldn't you take any chance you could to correct the record? Your job might depend on it!

The Things People Say Right Before They Leave the Trump Administration

Rex Tillerson’s forceful defense of President Trump, after an NBC News report said the secretary of state had called the commander-in-chief a “moron” and seriously considered quitting his job, offered few clues about his eventual fate. From Sean Spicer to Steve Bannon and Reince Priebus, it’s not uncommon for Trump’s aides to defend the president—right before being shown the door. Tillerson, the top U.S. diplomat, may be in a category by himself—but as he reminded everyone on Wednesday: He serves at the pleasure of the president.

“The vice president has never had to persuade me to remain as secretary of state, because I have never considered leaving this post,” Tillerson said in an unscheduled appearance before the media at the State Department, referring to the NBC report.

But multiple news reports since this summer have said Tillerson does not enjoy his job, feels undermined by Trump, and was considering resigning. If those reports were true, Tillerson was hardly going to confirm them at the State Department while insisting he was staying in his job. Instead, he offered what several officials from across administrations do when asked about rumors of impending resignation or dismissal. Tillerson’s exact words: “There’s never been a consideration in my mind to leave. I serve at the appointment of the president, and I am here for as long as the president feels I can be useful to achieving his objectives.” Tillerson was also careful to praise Trump, saying, “He loves his country. He puts Americans and America first. He’s smart. He demands results wherever he goes, and he holds those around him accountable for whether they’ve done the job he’s asked them to do.”

But Tillerson did not explicitly reject the crux of the NBC News reports—later corroborated by CNN—that he had called Trump a “moron” over the political nature of the speech the president made to an annual Boy Scouts of America gathering. The Boy Scouts apologized for the speech, because presidential addresses to the organization have previously been about service, not politics. Tillerson, a former Eagle scout, once chaired that organization.

The IQ test to determine who the moron really is

The president responded to rumors Secretary of State Tillerson called him a moron by insisting that if they matched wits, he would prove to have the higher IQ. Since a rap battle was out of the question, the geniuses at Mensa offered to settle the claim by testing the two at their convenience. But what if the @POTUS had an inside track and switched their questions for some that he was sure to ace?

Mr Tillerson's State Department spokesman, RC Hammond, said Mr Tillerson did not consider quitting in July. He also denied that he called Mr Trump a “moron.”

I guess people who actually know the score don't count eh?

He may have said that fake news people like the OP might be morons though

They certainly have the track record of one if one follows the threads for a while to see how they turn out.

Mensa said they would conduct this test.

Put it on pay per view.
How many years to set it up? There are sites that have some decent tests and it's free.

This would be 'interesting if everybody allowed to post on the thread had to have taken the test and posted the right score. That being said it would also mean the person would have time to research the question if it wasn't a test.

Ready, set, (insert sound of starting thing going off)

Not at all. I don't like unanswered questions in any topic I come across.
[notice it says 'investigator' rather than 'internet troll' so take all the time you need to explain why you know more than this expert. I'm all ears for anybody to examine the points he makes.

I was absolutely stunned to see how low CNN has sunk but Oct 15 has to be a new low.

I'm flicking around and Jack Tapper is going to interview Tillerson.

It starts and with all the serious things going on in the USA and the World things Tapper is asking him whether he or Trump called each other a moron. And this went on for 10 minutes with Tillerson being the only adult pointing out that what's said in the 'heat of the moment' have no relevance.

It was a sad spectacle....

Yes, the new Presidency has set the nation's tone and it's the underside of a wet rock tone.
