Yeah, he resigned a few weeks before my fifth birthday. He wasn’t forced from office, as he chose to resign before the full House could vote and before any Senate trial could take place, as political support had collapsed following the release of the "smoking gun" tape. The House Judiciary Committee approved three articles of impeachment in July 1974 for obstruction of justice, abuse of power, and contempt of Congress…& he slid out on his own terms.Remember Nixon .
Bill Clinton was impeached on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice after blowing loads down Monica’s throat and some hanky-panky with a cigar. The Senate acquitted and high-fived him on both charges.
Andrew Johnson was impeached over a dispute regarding the tenure of high-ranking officials. The Senate fell just one vote short of the two-thirds majority needed to convict and remove him, and to date no US presidents have ever been removed from office due to impeachment, so in theory it’s possible but it’s still just the theoretical after 250 years so it might not actually work.
Will the Democrats hold 2/3rds of Congress or the Senate after the upcoming midterms? I doubt it so it would fall to Republicans that want to be reelected in November of 2028 and most of the Public’s attention span is short enough that in two years will they remember which Republican did or didn’t stand up for impeaching Trump over his financial shenanigans, extrajudicial murders, etc…?
I can still picture Trump walking away (like Nixon, but with way less class) temper tantrum style probably about Easter when he comes to the realization that not much is gonna happen in the remainder of the next two years, leaving Vance to Trump 2.0 it until November 2028 (well, January 2029 actually but…).
On that note, smelling which way the wind is blowing, that would explain Pete Hegseth’s recent religiosity knowing Vance is pretty Whackadoodle in that direction thinking he can escape under Vance’s skirt, but this is the scenario where I can see enough Republicans siding with Democrats to throw Hegseth under the bus in a “Look over there!” type thing.
