Oilers v. Hurricanes

The Oilers were not the better team tonight. They were sloppy, rushed, made too many negligant plays that resulted in penalties. I am glad they lost tonight. Maybe it will give them a kick in the ass to play better the next night.

And as much as you want to blame Konklin, he did not loose the game tonight..it was lost by the team for its sloppy plays. Carolina should NOT have been given the opportunity to take the lead period.

The oilers gave away two gift chances

and the hurricanes took them. One was the break away given up by the Oiler's point man, and the other was the Oiler backup goaltender's give away that made it 5 - 4. Take back those two goals and some of the miraculous saves by Ward and it's a different game.

It is unfortunate that Roloson is out for the year. That might be the difference.

Have the Carolina franchise ever won the Stanley? I don't think so.

Sad about Rolison, but I think it will be Carolina now in 4 or five games they might sweep them because Edmonton is down 1 - love.

The Oilers completely dominated the first 37 minutes of the game. I was about to turn it off when Brind'amour scored. I don't think Carolina had a really good scoring chance until then. Edmonton out-hit, out-skated, out-shot, out-chanced and outplayed them.

But they didn't outscore them.

Carolina has a team of destiny feel. The loss of Roloson is more likely to rally the Oilers than hurt them, I think. But I just think that Carolina is going to win this series. They had no business doing so being down 3-0 last night.

I think the only way Carolina

can win this series, is if the other Edmonton goalies are really awful. Ward made a lot of good saves in the first game but the Oilers did find a way to get four past him. In the playoffs, four goals should win the game. The key is the next game with no givea ways. If Edmonton can steal a game and get home ice advantage, Carolina is toast.

I don't think Carolina played particularly well. After 3-zip the Oilers went into clock-watching mode, giving the Canes a chance to come back.

Edmonton? Who's Edmonton?

Just kidding. The refereeing has been pretty bad. It seems every time they get something going, there's another penalty. What Edmonton needs is a referee. Carolina has at least one. :p

Didn't Carolina spend most of the 1st in the klink?

I agree Toro, difference in this game was Cam Ward (or perhaps the lack of Roloson). Game 3 is always a pretty important game - either 2-1 or 3-0. If Oil fans can muster a nuthouse in Rexall you never know, win a game or two and it's a best of 3.

We had this talk at work today and i was arguing that you should always go with your back up goalie..so who do they go with ? The back up goalie to the back up goalie. What the hell?

Why have a number one back up goalie if you aren't going to use him. Why did they just not make Markinnen their backup in the first place.

Seriously, i was appalled at this move on MacT'...he listed too much to the band hopping media/fans because Conklin lost a goal with his whole whopping what was it again..3 minutes of ice time?? After he's been off for months? He lets one goal in that the oilers should not have had to be in a postion that a goal made a difference, and there for you pull him? Gah.

If they lose the cup, they deserve it. They are not playing with focus or discipline.

I heard someone say that Markinnen was a streaky goalie, could be cold or could be hot, and MacT was hoping he would catch fire. They don't need a consistently average guy right now they need one to steal the series.

A super goaltender

makes even a mediocre team look good. Remember how Trechak (sp) made the Russians almost unbeatable for years. Dominic Hasec was a game winner for quite a few years. Ken Dryden kept the Canadiens going for four Stanley cups. Is it possible that Edmonton, without Roloson, is just an "average" team? The goaltender doesn't score goals, and neither did any of the Oilers in that second game.
