A free ride to what, stay alive? They don't have any money. The rich take whatever they have every couple of weeks.

At what point do you expect a person to assume responsibility for their own life?

Are you suggesting that 1/2 the US population is entirely incapable of such and therefore is Bill Gates' role to act as their father and dole out allowances?

I don't see Bill Gates fighting in Afghanistan or Iraq. Certainly plenty of rich people making money off these wars but none of them put their lives (or money) on the line. Does he expect the people with no money to be fighting the wars and funding military software systems too, all for his benefit? In the least Microsoft should donate every last software system that goes into a US military project rather than expect the people who have made him rich to do it. Either that or he straps a gun to his back and heads for Kabul.

Anyone who works for GM, or Goldman Sachs, or any of the wall street banks should pay 75% income tax.

Anyone who works for a defence contractor should pay 75% income tax.

That would help solve the problems, since those fields are people sucking off the government teat and stealing from the nation.

The gvt employees, EI recipients, welfare moms, seniors, blue collar/white collar workers or politicians are fighting in Iraq either.

What's your point? Do these people expect that 'the rich' will act as the ATM machine for them for ever to provide for their endless entitlements?

You expect EI recipients to pay off the national debt? Lets see the math on that one.

$1.5 trillion in cuts, $1.5 trillion in new revenue from taxes. Sounds like a family who can't make ends meat and takes on more jobs and spends less.

Crazy socialists.

We don't have a trillion-dollar debt because we haven't taxed enough; we have a trillion-dollar debt because we spend too much.

~ Ronald Reagan

FACT CHECK: Are rich taxed less than secretaries?

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says he wants to make sure millionaires are taxed at higher rates than their secretaries. The data say they already are.
"Warren Buffett's secretary shouldn't pay a higher tax rate than Warren Buffett. There is no justification for it," Obama said as he announced his deficit-reduction plan this week. "It is wrong that in the United States of America, a teacher or a nurse or a construction worker who earns $50,000 should pay higher tax rates than somebody pulling in $50 million."
On average, the wealthiest people in America pay a lot more taxes than the middle class or the poor, according to private and government data. They pay at a higher rate, and as a group, they contribute a much larger share of the overall taxes collected by the federal government.
The 10 percent of households with the highest incomes pay more than half of all federal taxes. They pay more than 70 percent of federal income taxes, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

Most of them make dividends or capital gains which is half the amount of their marginal tax rate.

Yeah, an asset like $1000 in a mutual fund.
And that capital gains savings on a $1000 mutual fund accounts for how much?

I see... So, it's the fault of "the wealthy" and they should be made to pay?
No, it's the "they have all the money that was made from the country's debt and they need to look past their greed and realize no one else has the money to pay off the national debt." (a little wordy ;))

Yeah, sure; none of the debt went towards unsustainable social programs that provide ZERO return into the tax base.

You're really grabbing at straws.

What do you suggest cutting in social programs that will balance the budget?

Hasn't GM repaid their debt?
