The Republicans have only themselves to blame for the situation they're in. I still do not get why they picked McCain? As he tilts to the left on many issues (maverick), many of the hard core conservative Republicans will not vote in this election. This was clearly foreseeable, yet they still voted for McCain. Both Romney or Huckabee would have made better candidates. On a positive note, there's always 2012.

I don't think either one of those guys would have made better candidates than McCain, but
they definitely would have been far more to the right than he is, but he has changed
lots of his views in order to coax them over, but it's not sincere, that's not who he is.

....for 48 years I have been watching the Sunday morning political programmes and McCain was steady and graceful to both parties...but I'm getting the feeling that even though he is in the heat of a race....his HEART really isn't in it...IMO

Take Care.

I agree, he managed to get where he is, but seems uncomfortable. I have always
liked McCain throughout the years, because he was in the 'middle', but I don't like
his war 'push', it's only to gain political points, but makes him like a 'bush'
look alike, he isn't being his 'own' man. If Bush was at a point where he was starting
to have second thoughts, re: iraq war , McCain, would be all for it too.

I wouldn't count McCain out of this. Like one member said in a different thread, the spread is only about 3 or 4 points right now with about 10-15 undecided. Take away the politically correct niceties of polling and you probably have a McCain lead. It is going to be an interesting race. While I really dislike the Republican party, McCain is a pretty good guy. There could be a lot worse.

Excuse the caps, please.

Never challenge worse!

What he said didn't matter. It was a pure photo opportunity.

He is being scrutinized so closely, and everything he says is being examined from every
which way. He isn't going to be perfect, no one is, but he is very articulate, and very
intelligent. I do notice he takes time to pick and choose what he says very carefully, as
I'm sure he is aware at all times that his enemies are watching and waiting for him to make 'any' statement they can twist and turn to make it into what they want, and try
to make him look bad. That must be very hard.
McCain is 'much' older, and more 'blunt' when speaking, but he doesn't have much flair at all in his delivery of speeches or interviews, in fact he is rather poor at making speeches.

I don't think the polls mean a damn thing right now, at all.
