I think it's probably an error in protocol; seems to me that world leaders should greet each other with respect, but none of the formal acts of subservience. I could make an exception for a Catholic leader to kiss the Pope's hand, I suppose, but other than that, I don't think it's necessary or particularly appropriate.

However, I also don't see any major harm done, and if this is what occupies people, there aint much goin on.

I am just not sure it is the culture of the United States to have it's President bowing down to Kings and Emperors... or holding hands for that matter. Or does US Culture not count?

Sure, why do you think Akihito is shaking Obama's hand?

I don’t see anything wrong with bowing to the king, it shows respect, nothing more. Thus, if somebody carried the title of the King or Queen, there is nothing wrong in addressing him/her as Your Majesty, or Your Highness. It is simply protocol, shows proper respect, nothing more.

However, there is a more important reason why Obama was right in bowing down to the king. It makes Obama haters apoplectic, it gets their blood boiling. Anything that will give Obama haters the nightmares, that will make them foam at the mouth is worth doing in itself, regardless of its merits,

Well in Japan shaking hands means "We agree"... so perhaps he was agreeing with Obama bowing.

If bowing is simply a greeting...does the Emperor not bow?

But hey...he's our President...and he has every right to bow before anyone he wants.

Oh so that's why he did it?

I don’t think emperor bows to anybody. Others bow to the emperor.

"Sigh"

In greetings you bow.

Akihito is bowing but because he is the elder Obama bows lower and longer.

I have been to Japan, I know the customs.

Quite so. In many Asian countries, it is customary for a young man (or woman) to bend over and touch the feet of the older man (or woman) to show respect. They show great respect for age, for the elders in Asian countries.

I don’t know why he did it, but if he did it for that reason (to get Obama haters foaming at the mouth, to get their blood boiling, maybe give some of them a heart attack), more power to him.

Oh then if that was the reason I'd respect that.

I do however think he bowed for other reasons.

Foaming? I've never seen anyone foam while laughing but I have seen milk come out of their nose.

Two men showing respect for each others greetings.

Why is this such a issue for you?

Do you not respect people different than you?

Perhaps you can explain.

All I see so far is partisan garbage.

Is this the most intelligent debate you can have.

You're no better than the Dem's when Bush was in power.

If you want to attack Obama, attack the way he has run things so far, plenty of ammo there, instead it's down to small minded BS.

Let me guess, "they did it so now I will...nah nah".

Congratulations!

No wonder your country is going down the tubes.

Why is this such a issue for you?

It really isn't...but I do find it funny. Particularly the ones that... oh nevermind

Do you not respect people different than you?

Perhaps you can explain.

Sure I do. More so than you have ever had. Don't think because you've been muzzled a bit that I don't remember who you are

All I see so far is partisan garbage.

Did that really come out of YOUR mouth... or keyboard!

Is this the most intelligent debate you can have.

Well my posts are out there for your enjoyment.

You're no better than the Dem's when Bush was in power.

Sure I am. My President can bow all night if he so choses. I just have an opinion on it.

Thanks. You are free to put me on ignore.

No wonder your country is going down the tubes.

We've been hearing that for over two hundred years now!

So? Bowing, shaking hands, curtsying, etc. are forms of greeting and respect. Lifting one's hat to another, same thing. It's simply good manners.

Then why bring it up?

Sure I do. More so than you have ever had. Don't think because you've been muzzled a bit that I don't remember who you are

...who am I?

Please do tell.

Did that really come out of YOUR mouth... or keyboard!

Yes and yes.

So...go on.

Well my posts are out there for your enjoyment.

Not sure what that means but whatever, everyone has goals for themselves.

Sure I am. My President can bow all night if he so choses. I just have an opinion on it.

So anyone that has a differing opinion is a.....fill in blank.

My posts are out there on my president.

Filled with love and joy. I've read them.

Thanks. You are free to put me on ignore.

No, I don't hide.

We've been hearing that for over two hundred years now!

Not very long in empire years you know.

Tell me, just how do you think you're going to pay off all that debt?

Well it's been fun but here in Canada we work sometimes.

Cheers.

Quite so, Obama haters will badmouth Obama no matter what he does. Many of the Obama haters have a problem with his race, many others think that he is not a US citizen, and they have plenty of grievances against him (the biggest one being of course, that he defeated one of them, a Republican candidate. It was bad enough that he defeated McCain, but what was even more outrageous was that he defeated Joan of Arc, that is a blasphemy, a sacrilege to Obama haters).

When he received the Nobel Prize, that really made the blood of Obama haters boil, they became apoplectic, it may even have given some of them heart attacks, because of rage.

So any sniping, griping from Obama hates has to be taken with that spirit. I remember a while ago some blogger wanted to impeach Obama for playing golf.

I just love when you get on your soap box then show yourself to be a hypocrit.

Kind of funny actually and embarrassing for Obama. What did most the liberals say...

"Now earn it."

Wasn't that Gopher that brought up the golf impeachment? He's Obama's biggest fan!

Then we have some time to go then don't we? And you will most likely die miserable.

Tell me, just how do you think you're going to pay off all that debt?

We got Obama baby and when are you going to realize that he is going to fix everything.

Well it's been fun but here in Canada we work sometimes.

Hey...bye the way...

Welcome Back and peace
