Another great leftard plan. Save $3 million in mailouts plus add a few million $ in revenue from all the fines then outsource the job of notification to a foreign company most likely with some connection to Notley or her union boss husband. F^cking b^tch cannot be removed from office fast enough for this guy!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Notley government’s decision to scrap vehicle licence and registration renewal notices sent via Canada Post in April of this year continues to draw the ire of Albertans facing hefty fines for expired tags or driver’s licences.
Now, nearly five months after the conclusion of mailed notices, the province is attempting to reduce the number of drivers caught unaware by notifying the registered owner of the change by phone with an automated message.
The following is a transcription of the automated call:

“You will no longer be receiving renewal reminders for vehicle registrations, driver’s licences and i.d. cards in the mail. You can now choose from a variety of electronic reminders or mark the renewal dates on your calendar. Setup your electronic reminders at a registry agent, A.M.A. or at eservices.alberta.ca. Persons with disabilities will continue to receive reminders in the mail. Those over the age of 70 will receive mail reminders until April 1, 2017. For more information call 1-877-770-4636 or email us at renewal@gov.ab.ca. This is a message from the Government of Alberta.

The ‘robocalls’ originate from a phone number with a generic 1-877 prefix and CTV has confirmed the provincial government hired a U.S. based company to notify Albertans.
In response to CTV Calgary’s inquiries, government officials state the call centre was the only company that met all necessary requirements and was also the cheapest.

For some Albertans, the government’s attempt at damage control comes as little consolation as they’ve already received tickets for driving with an expired licence plate. The accompanying fine for the infraction is roughly $310.
Earlier this year, the province announced the removal of mail-out notices would save $3 million a year. Albertans were notified of the service change through radio advertisements with little fanfare or publicity.

Calgarian Jorge Vargas visited a registry on Wednesday to renew his vehicle following a recent traffic stop. “I was driving and a police officer stopped me and he told me ‘You are expired. You have to pay your registration again’. “
Vargas says he had no idea his registration was due as he had not received his annual letter from the government and is thankful the officer chose to let him go with a warning. “I was lucky.”

Not all Albertans have been as fortunate as Vargas.

Joan Graff, manager at Calgary Registry Services, says customers are entering the business on a daily basis to pay fines for expired licences or registrations.

“They’re upset,” explained Graff. “They didn’t feel like they got enough notice.”
According to the province, 2.5 million Albertans will receive the robocall regarding the removal of mail registration renewal notices.

No, They just stopped mailing out reminders ahead of license and registration expiry. I know a lot of people depended on that mailer so they weren't trying to remember a year or 5 later they needed to renew.

Those people need to quit relying on the state and have some personal responsibility.

You never got a renewal reminder and were glad because you had forgotten? The DL especially because most have a 5 year expiry. Will you really remember 5 years later?

My issue isn't actually with the cessation of mailouts. It is that there was very little warning and no grace period. Also the govt, after a multitude of complaints and bad press, has now decided to robocall everyone using taxpayer funds to hire a foreign corporation. They couldn't source the service here in Alberta? Canada?

It's basic business practice. Sorry if Americans can do the same job Canadians can do for cheaper. Quit yer whining and start being more productive. Honestly, it's any wonder you government dependents can even scratch yer **** in the morning without a taxpayer hand out. Get a job. Buy a calendar.

I have a job. A really good job. Probably do a lot better than you. In fact I pay more in taxes than the average Canadian salary so go f^ck yourself on that one.

I find it ludicrous that a government of any jurisdiction would make such changes without proper notification to the public then collect millions in fines because they didn't make the notification.

I also do not care if the service may be a little cheaper in the US. Since it is Canadians footing the bill it should be Canadians getting the work. At least that way there is a benefit to our economy and greater tax revenue collected. I'm sure basic economics like that escape your understanding so I won't bother with any greater detail on the socio-economic or moral reasons. Suffice to say hiring Canadians is the better choice all-round.

That's just silly. I foot the bill for my morning cup of coffee, but you don't see me demanding I do the work. Why would I pay myself to make my own coffee? What kind of socialist government dependent hooey is that?

No sir, I know you want the government to wipe your bottom but we live in a free democracy and we have a little thing called personal responsibility. The government got a good deal, like any good business should, and if you can't remember to take care of yourself and renew your license, how is that my problem? Get a job.

My libertarian beliefs call for government to f^ck off out of our lives and demand personal responsibility. It also makes me understand that if we are going to have a government it should be accountable and responsible to the electorate completely. Now I get your are too stupid to understand the actual socio-economic benefit of employing Candians and you are also not mentally capable of understanding the government's responsibility to do what benefits the electorate so we can just finish. Go get a real job instead of collecting my tax dollars in an overpaid, underworked slacker gravy train.

I can't believe I just read a self-described libertarian say that the government spending money employing people is good for the economy. This forum just keeps on giving. Get a job.

Libertarian is not anarchist. We believe in government, just a very small and very restricted version. We also understand that government spending into our economy is better for it than them spending overseas. At least when they hire within Canada those employees pay Canadian taxes and spend their wages in the Canadian economy supporting more Canadian jobs resulting in more Canadian tax revenue and so on and so on.

Now I can understand as a government employee you believe there is a never-ending supply of money for whatever you want to do and saving $50,000, while it looks good to moron bean counters in government and lets you all have a kumbya moment while squandering billions every year, is actually not any benefit if you spend the other $50,000 for the project outside our economy.

Yo are obviously not employed as an economist and hopefully not in any important position at all since you cannot understand the very basic principle of economic returns on spending.

Get a real job!

All I know is when the government screws up their end of a contract you wait forever
If you owe at tax time they have no trouble letting a body know
lol
Even before they pay you, they might even be looking for that tax payment, if you are incorporated and draw your wages for the time worked, before your corp even gets paid, if the dates happen to fall wrong

You're funny. It's welfare bums like you who need the nanny state to look after them that are the problem. Libertarians are the ones who don't need the government or anyone else.

Now go punch yourself in the face again.

Libertarian is not anarchist. We believe in government, just a very small and very restricted version.

Most libertarians don't include the government sending you handy reminders to renew your driver's license in their idea on very restricted government. Most aren't even all that keen on driver's licenses. Gary Johnson is though, so you got that going for you.

We also understand that government spending into our economy is better for it than them spending overseas. At least when they hire within Canada those employees pay Canadian taxes and spend their wages in the Canadian economy supporting more Canadian jobs resulting in more Canadian tax revenue and so on and so on.
Although libertarianism is bonkers, I find that libertarians are usually well-versed in their own ideology. Most libertarians would immediately recognize what you just said Keynesian. And if you knew anything about libertarianism, you'd find it hilarious that a libertarian said that.

The conservative, government loving gravy train continues.

Commies.

Libertarians don't need the government to look after them? Remember that time you wanted the government to remind you to renew your driver's license? Those were good times. Got a job yet?
