Yesterday handlers had to put down the last male Rhino of this species, leaving only 2 females in existence, both direct descendants of the last male.
It's sad because Rhino's are cool. The horns are one of the most expensive materials on Earth, which was of course probably what has brought them to this point. There is a good Antiques Roadshow where an old guy who had collected libation cups made of Rhino horn in the 60s and 70s and spent about $15 thousand had a collection worth over $5 million.
The good news is that with the genetic material they have there is hope that this species can be brought back. If not now, then sometime in the future when science has progressed.
