The Statesville Record & Landmark, a North Carolina newspaper, greeted readers this morning with the news of a KKK rally being held in the North Iredell County area this weekend. It was the headline news in a town of 24,633. According to the flyer that they printed on the front page (mercifully blocking out the contact information) the rally is to be held in a neighboring town, with the sickly ironic name of ‘Harmony.’ The flyer, and subsequently the front page of the newspaper, promises “Free Admition (sic)” and “Free Onsite Camping.” They’ll be food and drink vendors, souvenirs and of course, a cross burning.
Perhaps unnecessarily, it also adds the proviso, “White People Only.”

In the Record & Landmark’s online version of the story, the tone of the reporting seems almost disinterested, almost spartan compared to the attention it received in print. At the very least, nobody seems very alarmed. And even though they say it’s been at least 20 years since the Klan met in the County, the police will not be on alert (emphasis mine):
Capt. Darren Campbell of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office said deputies are aware of the rally but will not have a presence there unless called for service. “It’s on private property,” he said, adding that law enforcement cannot be on the property unless a crime is committed.
“Our officers are aware in case any problems should arise,” he said. “But they have not asked for any assistance for us. They have not reached out to us.”

Well, I suppose it’s a relief the Klan hasn’t asked for any assistance. But I assume they’ll “reach out” if they do.
If you look at the very bottom of the page, you see an ad for an urgent care facility, located in Statesville. It is in color, and everything is spelled correctly. But it sure isn’t as eye-catching as the advertising the Klan got for free this morning.

Yeah, they lifted it from a klan website (Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan - Home ). Besides, freedom of the press, freedom to make mistakes or be boneheaded...all that jazz. :lol:

Damn...I'll bet the friggin' FBI and it's 'touchy words' sniffer bots have found this one. ;-)

This GUARANTEES that those fools will NOT be left alone to spew their hatred. They will be picketed, and photographed, videoed, and get all of their venom recorded for everyone to see.

I can guarantee that some idiots that might of attended, will not be there after this was printed.

That local newspaper did a REAL public service by printing this.

The Klan is an underground organization that has not disappeared it just slides
by in the night in my opinion. People like this cannot live with their hate that
pent up. There are people everywhere that are filled with hate and no amount
of education or convincing is going to curb their penchant for ignorance.

I get what you're saying... but the Klan isn't any old club, so to speak. Same with those racist Black Panthers.

The Klan is more than just about race. I'm not a supporter, they don't like my type even if my ass is lily white.

They don't like me either... I'm Catholic.

I have no issues with anybody getting together and interacting with their own race, it's natural but the second some moron crosses the line and heads into the world of violence and hatred they've lost me. If they wish to have a rally, I'm not going to try to prevent it and I'm not going to get my **** in a knot because somebody published an ad.

A salient point, Petros. I have made that argument in the past, but only got rebuked by such nonsense as "Well, the Rotary, locally at least, has never lynched anyone as far as we know", nor has the Chamber of Commerce ever torched someones home with the residents within.

Castration has never been de rigeur with the Lions Club, nor burying anyone in an earth dam.

A fault to this argument is that the above associations are not white only. At least not in the last several years.

People of colour who fail to relinquish the sidewalk to whites have not been shot or beaten to a bloody pulp - locally, at least.

Could go on, but why?
