Nigeria Drops Charges Against Former U.S Vice President

British media say Nigeria has dropped bribery charges against former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney, for his alleged actions as a top official at energy company Halliburton.


Reports say Halliburton agreed to pay $250 million in fines in exchange for the charges being dropped.


The Nigerian Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says charges filed last week accused Halliburton, Cheney, and three others at the firm of bribing Nigerian officials to obtain rights to building a liquified natural gas plant in the Niger Delta.


Nigerian media reports say former U.S. president George H.W. Bush and former U.S Secretary of State James Baker played in role in the charges being dropped.


Halliburton has not publicly commented on the settlement arrangement.

I don't doubt that Haliburton and Chenney are involved in some less-than-legal dealings in various places throughout the globe: in some places thats how business is done and the multinational corps all know how to play that game. However, Nigeria charging someone with any type of corruption charge has all the credibility of Clifford Olsen making a statement about children's rights.
