"All that kneeling ignores the real cause of soaring black homicides

The FBI released its official crime tally for 2016 on Monday, and the data flies in the face of the rhetoric that professional athletes rehearsed in revived Black Lives Matter protests over the weekend.

Nearly 900 additional blacks were killed in 2016 compared with 2015, bringing the black homicide victim total to 7,881. Those 7,881 “black bodies,” in the parlance of Ta-Nehisi Coates, are 1,305 more than the number of white victims (which in this case includes most Hispanics) for the same period, though blacks are only 13 percent of the nation’s population.

The increase in black homicides last year comes on top of a previous 900-victim increase between 2014 and 2015.

Who is killing these black victims? Not whites, and not the police, but other blacks.

Dark Alliance was a series written by California-based reporter Webb and published in the San Jose Mercury News in 1996. In it, he claimed the Contra rebels in Nicaragua were shipping cocaine into the US. which was then flooding Compton and South-Central Los Angeles in the mid-Eighties after being turned into crack – a relatively new and highly addictive substance sold in 'rocks' that could be smoked. Webb also said the CIA was aware that proceeds from the sales of those drugs were being funnelled back to help fund the Contras.

Dark Alliance has been called one of the most explosive and controversial exposés in American journalism, and was the first investigative story to "go viral". Webb didn't anticipate some of this, but he wasn't prepared for the level of uproar it would cause in LA’s black communities, incredulous that their own government could in some way be responsible for the crack epidemic plaguing their homes;

The players should carry out body bags fresh from the morgue.

If I was the mayor or police chief of an NFL city, I would ask for volunteer cops, black and white, to go out and kneel with the NFL players and say "Yes, there are problems. We know there are problems. Let's work on them together." And I'd talk to the owner and say "Hey, let's put together a player/cop group, to visit schools and hospitals together, to talk to each other, to come up with suggestions for policy changes, both a charity thing and a serious advisory council."

But we don't do that anymore. We yell at each other. We don't talk to each other.

I'm with you on the school/hospital thing but dead cold on the kneeling in tandem part - in a sports stadium - in front of paying fans - who came to see a game - not a bunch of rude players which now include rude cops. So there.

Only cowards would use a captive audience to push their agenda on unsuspecting sports fans.

They have to have been living under a rock to be unsuspecting after this long, Durry.

Since first taking a knee in Aug 2016 has anything changed or does change require more direct action and involvement?

Go nuts, take a knee all you want but when you stand back up at least have a plan for change and act on it before next week's game.

Go, pete! Aren't you glad we have the CFL up here? I sure am.

Looks like taking a knee made things worse.

Yuuuuup. A lot of American black players tend to stay and become Canadians.

Yep. The right doesn't want to talk, it wants to yell.

My guess is the left will be equally irrational and terrified, but that's just a guess. We'll see.

So, providing an observation or asking questions is yelling?

That's rich

So, what's there really to talk about? We have a group of highly concerned athletes, that have direct ties to the very communities they claim to be a part of, raising awareness to the plight of their peeps.

They have spent lots of emotional capital in raising awareness but have absolutely no offers of practical solutions and certainly aren't thinking about deploying their own capital.... No sir, spending actual money has magically morphed into the responsibility of their employers, who, by some bizarre logic, are responsible for a solution.

What else can we talk about on this?... I know, how about the notion that these players are employees and it's not their right (despite all of their whining to the contrary) that they can use their employers company as a platform to air their personal, political or social views.

... So, there you have it ~ some talking points for you to chew on..... Now well see who's doing the yelling, eh?

The NFL needs to grow some balls here. Their rules clearly state that no personal displays are to be permitted on the playing field. Remember when the Cowboys wanted to wear a little symbol memorializing the 5 cops that were gunned down? The NFL prohibited it. Then there was the guy who wanted to use odd coloured shoe laces to bring attention to some illness. He was denied. But if you want to wear little piggy police socks or disrespect your entire country, the NFL big wigs will stand behind you. What a f*cking joke.
Just another group of cowards afraid of being labeled as racists despite the fact their rules are supposed to apply to [every player.

As for the idea of going around to schools, what exactly would they talk about? How BLM and the media continue to push a bullshit agenda? I mean it's pathetic really. Reading the MSM (in the US) you rarely if ever hear about anyone who isn't Black being killed by cops. Kind of leaves a very innaccurate impression that only Black people are shot by the police.

Bbbbbuuuttt, they're raising awareness to the situation, right?

Kinda like traveling to areas where famine is rampant and letting them know that the reason they're hungry is 'cause there isn't any food.... You know, raising awareness

And even though they are only 13% of the population, they are also responsible for 52% of all homicides and 55% of all other violent crimes in the US. This is why Liberals started screaming about how criminal profiling is actually racial profiling. What a load of bullshit. All the Libtards managed to do was remove one of the most powerful tools the police had and reduced it to propaganda dreck.

I think you've got it exactly correct.

And even though they are only 13% of the population, they are also responsible for 52% of all homicides and 55% of all other violent crimes in the US.

And this is why some police feel that it's okay to shoot and kill any black man they encounter in any way, innocent or guilty, pulled over for speeding, walking down the street, whatever. Because you seem to believe that all black men are guilty of some crime.

Exactly how do you know that no innocent black men have been shot and killed by police?

Innocent men, women and or children have been shot by cops... But that's not the retarded comment that you made earlier, is it?

What is 'The View'? Is that something that you and Petros get your business information from?

No.... I gravitate towards fact and not emotionally charged, unrealistic, unproveable generalizations

The kneeling thing is brilliant. It's hard for a born-again christian nutcase to criticize black folks for kneeling.

Almost as rich as pretending that I don't know you well enough to see a little more than your words on their face, y'know? I like you. You're a good, smart, decent guy. Gives me some insight into you.

So, what's there really to talk about? We have a group of highly concerned athletes, that have direct ties to the very communities they claim to be a part of, raising awareness to the plight of their peeps.

Um. . . go back and read my OP. There were suggestions in there for what there is to talk about.

... So, there you have it ~ some talking points for you to chew on..... Now well see who's doing the yelling, eh?
Well, your thesis was basically "there's nothing to talk about, so let's not seek mutual understanding," but at least you're talking. That's something.

As the great pacifist African-American leader Winston Churchill said "Talk-talk is better than war-war."

The kneeling thing is brilliant. It's hard for a born-again christian nutcase to criticize black folks for kneeling.

They seem to have found a way.

I'm interested in solutions Bones, not platitudes about raising awareness.

What's more, the participants raising awareness don't have the balls to actually do something about it.

That action in proposing or executing on a solution is something that all these folks would have the ability to execute upon.... But as it stands, all these people accomplished was to offload the responsibility onto someone else, BUT, they were able to pretend that they actually did something which I'm sure made them feel good and believe that they provided a solution

Raising awareness, platitude or not, is about taking your opposite number seriously, and admitting that he may. . . MAY. . . have a point. Not adopting his "truth" as the whole truth, but admitting that his "truth" may have some input to the whole truth.

What's more, the participants raising awareness don't have the balls to actually do something about it.
Except for visiting schools and community centers, donating millions, starting foundations, and in the case of the Baltimore Ravens, rebuilding a school and showing up, every day, to mentor and encourage the kids to achieve, on the field and in the classroom.

Oh, and spreading out through the city during the riots, personally engaging with the rioters, and encouraging calm and peace.

That action in proposing or executing on a solution is something that all these folks would have the ability to execute upon.... But as it stands, all these people accomplished was to offload the responsibility onto someone else, BUT, they were able to pretend that they actually did something which I'm sure made them feel good and believe that they provided a solution
I'm not sure what your sources of information are. Are you saying they are doing nothing more than kneeling because that's all they're doing, or because you haven't heard of anything else? You do know, I hope, the Da Meeja traffics in conflict, and generally ignores constructive efforts, right? Ever heard the saying "If it bleeds, it leads; if it thinks, it stinks?"

Also, is it the sole responsibility of the players to reach out? Re-read my OP. Do the police and the city government have no responsibility to engage with the communities they rule and enforce? Is that the Canadian model of government?

The problems they are raising awareness towards are not new, in fact, they have plagued many, many communities for decades.

Further, using their employers as a platform for their hobby horse is remarkably stupid

But then again, everyone was yelling earlier, remember?... No room for conversation then.. Why now?
