CALLING ALL GREENS!

VOLUNTEERS AND CONTRIBUTIONS NEEDED FOR KATRINA RELIEF EFFORT
REFUGE IS NOW OPEN, WILL PROVIDE EMERGENCY SHELTER AND SERVICES FOR
EVACUEES

Green Party of Florida co-chair and national delegate Sarah Steiner
(a/k/a "echo") has organized a relief effort for Katrina evacuees that
is being supported by state and national Greens. Echo and her crew of
volunteers have arrived in Live Oak to set up camp this Labor Day
Weekend at the Spirit of Suwannee Campground. This campground has
already been designated as a Red Cross hurricane relief site (See
http://www.musicliveshere.com/hurricane.asp) and the owner has
graciously agreed to host this proactive relief effort by Greens.

Many existing shelters opened by the Red Cross in communities along
Interstate 10 have already been filled to capacity, and there are still
thousands of people from Mississippi and Louisiana deperately seeking
food and shelter, so this camp will serve as a temporary shelter and
processing point for evacuees, allowing them a chance to get rested,
bathed and fed. Volunteers will then arrange for medical care,
transportation to homes of relatives when possible, or placement with
housing provided by churches or government agencies. The camp is also
collecting water, food and supplies for immediate delivery to the New
Orleans area.

Your help is needed. Donations of time are most welcome, but if you
can't come to Live Oak please consider donating money for water, food
and supplies. Also welcome are contributions of camping and cooking
supplies, tarps, flashlights and batteries, insect repellant, and cell
phones. Temporary housing is needed for Greens from Louisiana and
Mississippi who have been displaced by the hurricane.

Cash donations can be made online via the US Green Party Peace Action
Committee: http://www.gp.org/committees/peace/ .

A music concert is happening tonight (Saturday) at the campground that
will serve as a fundraiser for hurricane relief efforts, and the Greens'
Katrina Relief camp will be set up and operational by Sunday morning.
Visit the Spirit of the Suwannee Campground website for directions
(http://www.musicliveshere.com/) or call Echo for more information at
561-389-2844. Gainesville area contact: Michael Canney 352-871-1991.

When I see outbursts of emotions and sincerity like this from some of the good 'ol boys, I tend to take them very seriously...

He has absolutely no reason to lie, and a lot of people should have their asses handed to them over this...

I'll bet this poor guy voted for Bush too...

points need to be made over and over regarding the response to Hurricane Katrina:

1. As our thumb twiddlers tried stared off into space trying to figure out how to throw food and water out of airplanes, China successfully evacuated a million people in advance of a hurricane.
2. Director of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff told Tim Russert , not once but twice, that he read the paper on Tuesday morning saying that New Orleans dodged a bullet. Russert did not seem to understand the ramifications of his statements. Chertoff, on TV, admitted that he waited to see what already happened before he addressed the situation. In other words there was no actions taken in preparation for the levy breaking. He was not prepared to handle the event until after it happened. This speaks volumes.
3. I have said over and over that terrorism is not even on the list of things that pose a serious threat to Americans (unless “terrorists” continue to get the help and weapons technology from our own government), and that The Bush environmental policy will kill more people than all terrorism in history combined. Maybe now people will start to understand that American cities do not do well under water.

It is time to start listening to the liberals on such issues. It is always a matter of time before people realize that the liberals are correct on such issues. We can not survive many more lessons so that the stubborn greedy right wing can learn these things at the expense of human catastrophe. Think about it! – Jesse, Editor, TvNewsLIES.org

Why Some in the Media Suddenly Became Liberal
Posted by Jesse on September 3rd, 2005
So a few members of the TV media have become human beings this week. They left their FOX News and CNN studios and became living citizens. Guess what happens when you do this? You become a liberal. Liberals live in reality. They see things up close. They understand humanity because they are part of it. It is their EXPERIENCE that causes them to become liberal. Only those who are protected from the bulk of reality remain conservative.

Conservatives don’t look at the health of this planet, the suffering people all over the world, the victims of American military and economic domination and slavery or the realities of their leaders. They simply bury their heads in their religious books and they learn how to think and what to believe by listening to their earthly idols in the conservative media.

Neo-conservatives are even worse. They are the Republican version of religious fundamentalist such as the Taliban. They are ideologues. They believe in ideology and have no need to open their eyes and examine reality in order to see if their ideas are working or accurate.

Maybe now a few people will wake up to the insanity.

I am not impressed with the recent trickle of humanity we are seeing from the lying bastards in our media. They have a long way to go before they make up for the very horrors in this world that they have helped to create. Think about it!

Katrina Yes, 9/11 No?
Posted by Jesse on September 2nd, 2005
Do you see how the media are all over the administration for not preparing for the disaster in New Orleans? You see how they are asking questions about how everyone knew that this was going to happen? Do you see how they are talking about all the warnings about the levy breaking and about how the budgets were cut that might have helped address this potential problem? My question is where were the similar questions about 9/11?

Where were the questions about the warnings? Where were the questions about knowing that planes can be used as missiles? Where were the questions about Bush calling off virtually all CIA & FBI investigations into the bin Laden family? Where were the common sense questions and outrage that we are seeing from our media today? Think about it!

Where the Fuck is Dick Cheney?
Posted by Jesse on September 1st, 2005
The US is experiencing the worst disaster since the 2000 election and Dick Cheney has yet to say a word. Not a word out of that cold hearted demon! I guess there are no lies to tell to the media so he has nothing to say.

Where is he? Is he still planning his nuclear war on Iran or another round of domestic terrorism? Maybe he is checking to see if he has Fats Domino in his dead pool? Perhaps he is working out a no-bid contract for Halliburton to supply overpriced gas for the relief effort?

Where is he? He is the president of the United States, I mean the Vice President…wink wink…he might want to show his god damn scowling face and say something nice for a change!

Just venting,
Jesse, Editor, TvNewsLIES.org

UPDATE: 02-September, 2005 - I WAS RIGHT! Look: Halliburton gets Katrina contract, hires former FEMA director - Allbaugh managed Bush’s campaign for Texas governor in 1994, served as Gov. Bush’s chief of staff and was the national campaign manager for the Bush campaign in 2000. Along with Karen Hughes and Karl Rove, Allbaugh was one of Bush’s closest advisers.

“This is a perfect example of someone cashing in on a cozy political relationship,” said Scott Amey, general counsel at the Project on Government Oversight, a Washington watchdog group. “Allbaugh’s former placement as a senior government official and his new lobbying position with KBR strengthens the company’s already tight ties to the administration, and I hope that contractor accountability is not lost as a result.”

Let the American people rise now. This animal is killing his own people now. He is on a killing mission. Must be stopped now.
I voted for this jackass in 2000, then after 9/11 I woke up to the truth! And I have been telling people what kind of monster he is ever since.
Impeachment would be to kind!

Good for you man. You are a true American even if you've voted for him. We all make mistakes. The way out of this is to fix our mistakes by removing him by force and impeach him with his cronies because another 3 years with this monster is deadly.

NEW ORLEANIANS CALL FOR ACTION- PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY

Displaced New Orleans Community Demands Action,
Accountability and

Initiates A People's Hurricane Fund

Not until the fifth day of the federal government's
inept and inadequate emergency response to the New
Orleans' disaster did George Bush even acknowledge it
was 'unacceptable.' 'Unacceptable' doesn't begin to
describe the depth of the neglect, racism and classism
shown to the people of New Orleans. The government's
actions and inactions were criminal. New Orleans, a
city whose population is almost 70% percent black, 40%
illiterate, and many are poor, was left day after day
to drown, to starve and to die of disease and thirst.

The people of New Orleans will not go quietly into the
night, scattering across this country to become
homeless in countless other cities while federal relief
funds are funneled into rebuilding casinos, hotels,
chemical plants and the wealthy white districts of New
Orleans like the French Quarter and the Garden
District. We will not stand idly by while this disaster
is used as an opportunity to replace our homes with
newly built mansions and condos in a gentrified New
Orleans.

Community Labor United (CLU), a coalition of the
progressive organizations throughout New Orleans, has
brought community members together for eight years to
discuss socio-economic issues. We have been
communicating with people from The Quality Education as
a Civil Right Campaign, the Algebra Project, the Young
People's Project and the Louisiana Research Institute
for Community Empowerment. We are preparing a press
release and framing document that will be out as a
draft later today for comments.

Here is what we are calling for:

* We are calling for all New Orleanians remaining in
the city to be evacuated immediately.

* We are calling for information about where every
evacuee was taken. We are calling for black and
progressive leadership to come together to meet in
Baton Rouge to initiate the formation of a Community
Oversight Committee of evacuees from all the sites.
This committee will demand to oversee FEMA, the Red
Cross and other organizations collecting resources on
behalf of our people.

* We are calling for volunteers to enter the shelters
where our people are and to assist parents with
housing, food, water, health care and access to aid.

* We are calling for teachers and educators to carve
out some time to come to evacuation sites and teach our
children.

* We are calling for city schools and universities near
evacuation sites to open their doors for our children
to go to school.

* We are calling for health care workers and mental
health workers to come to evacuation sites to
volunteer.

* We are calling for lawyers to investigate the
wrongful death of those who died, to protect the land
of the displaced, to investigate whether the levies
broke due to natural and other related matters.

* We are calling for evacuees from our community to
actively participate in the rebuilding of New Orleans.

* We are calling for the addresses of all the relevant
list serves and press contacts to send our information.

We are in the process of setting up a central command
post in Jackson, MS, where we will have phone lines,
fax, email and a web page to centralize information.
We will need volunteers to staff this office.

We have set up a People's Hurricane Fund that will be
directed and administered by New Orleanian evacuees.
The Young People's Project, a 501(c)3 organization
formed by graduates of the Algebra Project, has agreed
to accept donations on behalf of this fund. Donations
can be mailed to:

The People's Hurricane Fund c/o The Young People's
Project 99 Bishop Allen Drive Cambridge, MA 02139

If you have comments of how to proceed or need more
information, please email them to Curtis Muhammad
(muhammadcurtis@bellsouth.net) and Becky Belcore
(bbelcore@hotmail.com).

Thank you.

My dad said that they should just forget about the huge dikes and let the river run through the city and turn it into a North-American Venice.

State Run by Fools

The more I hear of the deadly dumb decisions made by FEMA and other government agencies while the people of New Orleans dehydrated, starved, died and were treated in ways not seen since Hitler loaded boxcars, I hope, pray and beg that the American people will finally, and loudly, ask questions, and demand immediate answers. I have lots of questions, and the rest of the populace should have them, too.

My first question is…what in the heck has happened to military time?? Who forgot to call out, "Gentleman, set your watches!"? Is our planet passing through some very strange and disorienting time warp? One has to wonder when, instead of the military and government emergency agencies speaking with terms like "0400 hours," we hear, "Seven thousand additional troops will arrive in a day or so."

"In a day or so"? The people have been in dire circumstances for a week now! "In a day or so"? What kind of military time is that? I am glad that The Dirty Dozen did not have to conduct their precision mission at the mercy of that kind of vague, buy-some-time planning.

"Gentleman, set your watches to…'a day or so', then mosey into the German compound whenever you get around to it. If you happen to note that I am about to be shot, try to give me some cover. If some of you other guys happen to access gasoline before some of the other guys manage to handle the crowd, not to worry. BUT…be sure that you prepare many excuses in advance of arrival back at HQ – that is IF you get out alive. Good luck, men."

When the State leaders cannot define military objectives and plans in a precise fashion, the time has indeed come to disband all standing armies and return to the use of state militias totally out-from-under any and all federal controls. I would rather depend on a few ready-teddy good ole local boys hiding behind rocks and trees than upon thousands in uniform who might show up "in a day or so."

Another question I have is…how is it possible that one lone citizen proved to be more intelligent, more capable, and more astute than all of those officials who have been planning and practicing for handling emergencies since long before Y2K? Tens of thousands of people were stranded in a dangerous situation and needed to be bussed somewhere/ elsewhere/ anywhere.

While the officials in DC sat around with their thumbs up their proverbial behinds, one astute and caring fellow went to a school yard, found the keys for a bright yellow school bus, and drove around collecting people until the bus was full. Once the bus was full, he drove to Houston.

I heard the brave and sensible man interviewed and it was apparent that he had never been through any FEMA or DHS training; never been through any staged pretend emergency evacuations like those that frighten school children into bad dreams for life; never practiced with some white UN bus. The man simply considered the fact that people needed to be transported and realized that a bus is a great vehicle for carrying a large number of people.

Why did local, state and federal authorities fail to display such wisdom?? There are school busses parked all over this nation, (unfortunately for those of us who hate consolidation) which should have been put into immediate use!! I would certainly prefer that those busses be used to save lives than to drag children to consolidated public schools around the country.

That gentleman admitted that he had never driven a school bus, but he managed to do it. Those fancy FEMA people could learn, also. The gentleman wisely ignored protocol. He did not bother to contact the school board and ask permission. He simply found the bus office, got the keys, and started collecting then transporting persons-in-need. In those first days after the storm, we should have seen brightly colored yellow school busses running in and out of New Orleans getting 60–80 people at a time to safety.

We didn't see that because our State has become a very dangerous amoeba lacking Intelligent Design.

I will begin the attack by asking these very pertinent questions. I hope that each of you will ask your own questions. Ask them clearly and loudly so that DC can hear. Send a printed copy for those without ears to hear and/or brains to comprehend.

If our officials in DC cannot or will not answer our questions, then they need to step aside and make way for people like the brave man who quickly concluded that busses can carry people, and that schools have lots of busses, then acted to do something that would save lives.

I will follow a gentleman like the instant-bus-driver any day, but I have absolutely no faith or interest in following Bush & Company for they only drag us into ever deeper and more dangerous quagmires.

Get out of the way Bush!! Come on home, National Guard!! Your families and neighbors need you here in America, where you belong. With your support and assistance, local people can do the rest.

We lost our government long ago, as its position was usurped by the Amoeba-State. Read Our Enemy, The State by Albert Jay Nock so you will understand. Help us lead our individual states Back to the Future, but let us indeed make changes back then that will prevent a repeat of this present and dangerous farce that, without radical and immediate change, will destroy all freedoms for the future.

From The Desk of Burton S. Blumert

At first glance, the wretched stream of refugees from the foul Louisiana floodwaters might have been from a 3rd. world country, but there was one hugh difference; instead of exhibiting vacant-eyed despair, these folks were angry. Government had failed them.

Where was the hot food and air-conditioned buses? Why were the police indifferent to their plight? Where was the government?

Well; we would all soon be witness to the state in its repulsive glory; imprisoning people in the Superdome, enacting Soviet-style population transfers, leading and excusing the looting, abusing "public property" in levees, threatening jail for entrepreneurial businessmen, militarizing the entire Gulf area, spending vast sums through the nasty Fema, handing out reconstruction contracts to its pals, and imposing restrictions on private charities.

Displaying all the characteristics that caused Nietzsche to call it a "cold, cruel monster," the government’s true nature as a laughably incompetent but chillingly criminal enterprise was on display. We also saw, once again, that a little Nazi lurks in the breast of every official.

No wonder these parasites love war: regimentation and killing. War is more than the health of the state. It is the joy of the state.

In war, the politician can suppress more, steal more, control more, lie more, spy more, bomb more – and it’s all in the name of patriotism. And anyone who questions the seizure of our liberties, the exaltation of the president and the police state, the constant (and stupid) propaganda, and the bloody massacres, is "anti-American."

Outside of government, most of us are satisfied to conduct our own lives. We’re not interested in running the guy next door, let alone the town next door, still less another county.

But some people scheme and plot to run other people’s lives. Some professions, like tax collectors, are drawn to the opportunity like the moth is to napalm. And for these people, waging death and destruction is a dream come true. If they become run of the mill criminals like bank robbers and serial killers, they risk arrest. If they hold high office, they do the arresting.

But, there is some risk to the state. Indeed, war can be its Achilles heel.

As LRC columnist Cindy Sheehan has shown, just one person with courage and truth can be the catalyst for such a transformation. The warmongers were riding high, until she pulled the rug out from under them by camping outside the president’s ranch, and asking for a straight answer to why her son was sent to his death in Iraq.

They have used every dirty trick in the book to marginalize Cindy, but almost overnight, the high-riding neocons were brought low. The fight has only begun, of course, but what an opening event!

Here’s the key ingredient: all political power depends on the consent of the governed, at least their tacit consent. Thus the vast amount of time and resources spent on state schools, state-connected media, state-connected intellectuals, etc., to bolster state rule.

If that consent is withdrawn, even a powerful state blows away like dry leaves. Murray Rothbard tells the story of the royal government in Pennsylvania during Revolutionary times continuing to issue ever more desperate edicts, and finally having to take ship for London. No one was obeying or even paying much attention.

Just a minor weakening of consent, as over Iraq, has them shaking in the boots, while Reich-wing radio gets frantic with fear and deceit. The neocons in particular are eying the lifeboats in case the ship starts to sink.

Since the militarized and terrorized New Orleans is a model for what the government would like for America, without affecting the "tax base," we must keep the pressure up. And there is a lesson here for us.

How has the opposition to the war on Iraq reached such a state relatively early as compared with Vietnam? There is one answer and one answer only: the internet. This magnificent institution started and then fanned the prairie fire of opposition, by making sure that those who want to be informed were not left with FOX or other varieties of fanatical state media. The truth really does set you free.

In their troubles, the neocons are becoming vicious.

Just recently, a crazed Israeli professor, a crazed DC think tanker, a crazed turncoat, a crazed anti-capitalist, and a crazed war book writer have smeared Lew. (Say, is there a pattern here?) They all claim that a "right-wing" antiwar movement is far more dangerous than a leftist one. They’re right about that, we influence far more middle-class people successfully, which worries the standpoint of the merchants of death and their pals. Lew appeals to a very wide swath of the young here and abroad, and plenty of us non-young too.
