Re: ‘National moral disgrace’: Over 1 in 5 US children on food stamps & living in pov
It is true.
For the homeless ones that do not have mental issues most often have addiction issues.
For the homeless that have neither mental or addiction issues have no business being on the street. If I lose everything right this moment I would not find myself on the street. I would find myself collecting a welfare check and living in provided housing with my SNAP card for all the food I would ever need. I'd even have money leftover for lottery and booze.
WOW, you assume you would be able to collect a Welfare Check..
I'm going to play Social Worker.. do you have all your ID? I want to see your Rent receipts from your last place of residence (you have to prove you are at the right office), Water and Power Receipts, Bank Accounts for the last 3 months, any investments and car(s).
Come back to the office when you have all that..
In the meantime, you can try to stay at one of these shelters, get there early, because they fill up fast.
Here is a couple of bus tokens and a meal voucher.

Okay, now your off to the first location.. it's full..
You try the second, it's full.. you used up your bus tokens..
Now your off to the 3rd location.. walking. It's 5 miles away and you have 3 bags of clothes and belongings..
Remember, no money for a phone call and it's almost 7:00PM. Chances are the shelters are all filled up, you might get lucky and find one with a floor mat..
You also realize that all your belongings, shoes, clothes could get stolen while at the shelter, so maybe it's not that secure of a place..
You opt out to sleep on the streets in a park.. You are NOW Homeless and no place to shower.
Your meal voucher is only $10.. what can you buy for 10 bucks.. junk food is cheap and you want to buy enough to last a few days..
1 Sandwich is $4, but you can get 4 bags of chips for $4. You go for the chips.
So the Cycle begins.
P.S. I used to work for the Government as a Social Worker in Ontario 23 years ago...
