“Collapse can be avoided, and population can reach a steady state at the maximum carrying capacity, if the rate of depletion of nature is reduced to a sustainable level, and if resources are distributed equitably,” according to the report.
Arguments made in this report are similar to those made by White House science czar John Holdren, who has suggested that government should limit the size of the population in order to keep the Earth from becoming unlivable.

Empires and all cultures are very much like living things.

They cannot stay static, but must either grow or decline.

However the old Pharaonic Empire lasted for over 4-5 thousand years.

BTW it wqs founded on slavery and its rulers practiced incest.

The arrival of the www & odern science may change this, plus the fact that we will soon be able to move asteroids into low earth orbit will nean that metal supplies will become effectively unlimited.

So IMHO the verdict is still out.
