Naked man in gorilla mask assaults Nanaimo jogger - British Columbia - CBC News

Nanaimo police are searching for a naked man in a gorilla mask who assaulted a woman jogging around the popular Westwood Lake trail on Saturday afternoon.

Cpl. Sarah Mattes said when the man grabbed the woman she fought him off and ran, but the man followed her until she was able to get to a phone and call RCMP.

Mattes said assaults like this are rare, but police did see similar attacks at the lake last year, and she advises women to avoid using the trails alone.

"Run with a friend and be completely aware of your surroundings. It is quite a public trail. Take action that is appropriate and let us know. Call the police as soon as it happens," said Mattes.

Nanaimo police don't know what the man's face looks like because of the gorilla mask. But they say they are looking for a skinny, middle-aged, Caucasian man.
