Oh, Shiny Pony!

TechDirt;
The political debate in Canada is heating up, with the Conservative party recently launching a series of attack ads aimed at the new Liberal party leader, Justin Trudeau. Whatever you think of these kinds of ads -- and I am of the mind that it sucks to see them getting more and more popular in Canada, no matter which party is using them -- former Liberal leader and current Liberal MP Stéphane Dion has now shown everyone how not to respond to them.

In a letter to Canada's election regulators, Dion has presented the incredibly twisted argument that the footage in these ads violates copyright law, which makes it an illegal campaign contribution:

Cobalt Kid,

I feel for you. You are attempting to sway opinions in a political thread. That doesn't happen very often.

Let me give you some advice, if you want to sway opinions, you need to take and control the moderate ground in this debate. As long as you are intent on mud slinging, bashing and defaming, you are going to occupy the extremist ground in this debate. When you are in the extremist's corner, some people will love you, others will hate you. But most certainly, no one will take you serious enough to reconsider their own opinions.

You even get your Canadian news from American websites. Hilarious.

On top of that it's an opinion piece. Weren't you slagging me beforee for daring to post an opinion.

Still waiting for you to disprove the stuff she had in article. Do you need more time?

Already did. Figured you read it, wisely realize you just got your *** handed to you and moved on. I guess I shouldn't have associated the adjective "wise" with a guy who doesn't realize that editorial writers write opinion columns.

Kid....get a life.....

Wishful thinking on that front... Like some of the other usual suspects, they manage to take these things personally, leading one to wonder if that individual has a personal life?

Well put.

It's folly to expect an ideologue to back up their position with things as silly as 'facts'

Nice concession speech, Angry Old White Guy. At this point your just stumbling round the ring and spitting your teeth out like bloody Chiclets. You showed up to a battle of wits unarmed. Do yourself a favour and stay down.

Deja Vu?... It most likely will be on this battle of wits

Sage advice, to which I would add that if you can't occasionally acknowledge a good point, or show some flexibility in your thinking, you come off like a politician, and we're not politicians here. We're interested (and informed) bystanders debating politics.

We're not party hacks, and making yourself invariably appear like one just turns people off, even if you occasionally make a good point.

The party hack, or "spin doctor", relies heavily on an audience that is unknowledgeable enough to swallow untruths and half-truths, and this is a poor place to try that sort of thing.

When you find somebody to engage in this "so called battle of wits" let me know , cause all I see from you is a bunch of bullsh!t.

Sure I could dance around that mulberry bush all day long, but then I generally try to debate with people who work with facts and don't embellish or make crap up. Or backpedal when asked direct questions. Didn't take long to figure you out.

Your facts aren't facts. They're just opinions you happen to agree with.

Give me a break, I've got half the people here on ignore because I got tired of reading about the kind of cat food I ate and other completely irrelevant nonsense.

If you don't want to discuss actual politics and the facts behind them, which has pretty much become standard for the conservatives in this country, then don't complain when you have a hard time debating with someone who actually wants to debate the facts.

The extremists in this country are the ones misleading Parliament about things like the Afghan War where over 150 Canadians have died, or repeatedly closed down Parliament to end important debate, or repeatedly violated elections laws, or shutting down science organizations and other important sources of research and information in this country, etc, etc..

Canadians are learning who the true radicals are in this country and they're not the ones pleading for a return to the middle ground.

Again, you don't discuss or debate; you declare.
Again, you may have posted an occasional fact, but your posts are mainly editorial and you use bias rather than reason to hinge your posts on.
Not everyone is as monomaniacal as you.

Justin Trudeau is just running on his Daddy's name..

Come on..

Justin Trudeau gets elected and Alberta will have a referendum to split from Canada.. LOL

Eggsactly. That's all he is and all he's doing.

If you're koolaided enough and told long enough that something is so, by let's say, the People's Broadcasting System or whatnot (AGW, Leafs will win the cup, Shiny Pony is for real, reality shows are must-see tv etc.), the kids will agree in order to remain current, popular, hip and such.

Anyone that claims he's significant and relevant is delusional, should up their meds and reduce their internet time. It's nice outside.
