Money squandered by G.G. vs. money squandered in the north.

You're entitled to your opinion #Juan but it's not a reason to denigrate someone elses! I spent most of yesterday tangling a$$holes with a guy who is like that.

Sounds uncomfortable to say the least...

JLM, are you saying that money hits the GG spot?

Good one but I hadn't thought of it quite that way. I suppose I have to start seeing the humour in even the most nafarious and egregious situations. My blood does boil when one of our well paids servants takes 55 parasites to Finland.

First of all we are a constitutional monarchy not really a democracy in the true
sense of the word. The Governor General is the head of state and the over all
Queens representative. She can travel as an ambassador to where ever the
Prime Minister or Government wants her or him to go.
Today we are in more difficult financial times and people view the pomp and
ceremony more conservatively than they did a decade ago. I would be willing
to bet if you put this to a vote keeping the Queen would win hands down. No I
don't know why, I am not particularly a monarchist, but I do recognize that the
people are not yet willing to move on even with the influx of immigrants.
We have a long history based on fantasy and ceremony and it is part of our
national makeup that will not die easily.
As for squandered money, I am afraid that it will always be with us for a good
reason. Government and its relationship with the people is really a mixture of
financial accountability, and politics and in many cases riding by riding politics
accounts for more politics than over all economic accountability.

Well put D.G. ................If this is what the majority of Canadians want who am I to argue, but I have a hard time squaring it with the parsimonious attitude toward our First Nations people in the north who lack even the bare essentials of decent living. I guess what I'm saying is why is it OK for the P.M./G.G. to squander money but no one else had better do it?

Politics, optics and a need to shower the general public with their romantic dream fantasies.
Its not about those in need its about those who return you to office. We all love the Queen
the pomp and ceremony and we don't even know where the natives live. We assume and
I mean assume we give the money and land and they should be happy with their lot. Besides,
if we don't know too much about the problems, we don't have to confront our own reality and
that way we can continue to believe in the good ole days, you know that simpler time when
all was perfect. Yes I am talking about that simpler time that never did exist.

I could be wrong but I don't think the unelected can make money decisions. The man(the PM) who appoints the G.G. is also the man who
gives the orders. Traditionally when the G.G. travels abroad, she/he brings a representative of each major area of the country with her. It
is probably good for the country's business.

I'd be very happy to hear of any gadgets/widgets she/he have sold on their trips overseas................perhaps there is a link showing money he/she has generated!

JLM you've had a bee up your bum about the governor General for some time now. The G.G. doesn't sell widjets she, as royalty,
puts business representatives who do sell Canadian stuff in touch with people who buy the things we sell.

Not really #Juan. I guess it started with Jeanne Sauve, her spending reached criminal proportions, she had the sense of entitlement that some children have. I can understand the regalness of the institution but that is a far cry from squandering money during times of austerity. Those are the people who should be leading the way. I do understand that she doesn't go door to door with a briefcase full of widgets.

NDP video shows a clear picture of what's happenning

NOT! firstly you need to consider anything presented to you by an opposition party as biased in the extreme.

It says nothing about the band, comprised of roughly 2000 members, employing three chiefs, yep; past, assistant and full chief along with various and sundry other administration officials all drawing a salary and numbering into the 30's in total including consultants etc..

How many towns of 2000 population would you allow to have three mayors and over 25 councillors all drawing salaries without accusing them of corruption? Ooops; can't use that word when natives are involved as the "racist" card will come out and beat you about the head.

How about the fact that over 30 million of OUR dollars each year for the last three have been poured into that community? Where did it go? How about the fact the Liberal MLA who'se claims of federal intransigence brought all of this to light has been the representative for that area for the last 7 years. I guess those houses just turned into s***holes during conservatives stewardship eh?

The forcing upon them of an auditor in the form of an independant agent to peruse their spending habits is causing them to act all uppity with the intrusion; well tough nuts folks I want someone finding out where MY dollars are being spent by these corrupt chiefs buying their new pick-ups and driving them into ditches while drunk. One of their cabale made a salary of near 90k as the Technical Consultant. A town of 2000 with no infrastructure to speak of needs a full time Technical advisor to the tune of 89,000 per year????

90 mil over the last three years with no housing or infrastructure improvements but a spanking new rink and a flown-in Zamboni (over 70k for that alone) along with a school built on contaminated land that THEY knew beforehand was contaminated so it has to be torn down and relocated elsewhere are all the stuff of corruption but no one dares use that word, do they?

DeBeer's employs a bunch of them and even repaired their faulty sewage system and donated some portable housing to them that some of them are still living in and how do these idiots thank them? Why, they erected a blockade to the mine site in protest over not getting enough freebies from the mining company.

Time has long passed to take them off the public teat and force responsibility on THEM, not our government to provide some semblance of morally acceptable behaviour by their so called elected leaders. They demand the right of self determination but hold their collective hands out in the same breath. THEY can't have it both ways; either the government pays for their very existance AND runs the show or they severe the ties that bind and go their merry way, electing whatever corrupt leaders they like but no more guilt money paid by taxpayers handouts.
