Say AnalFloss, don't know why you're so excited, this $15/hr increase is in the United States, not Canada.. you'll still be making $10.50 at your 7/11 cashiers job in Ontario.
I strongly support the concept of a living wage however minimum wage laws are counter intuitive to creating low wage positions and actually eliminate them.
For example, I was recently looking at a fully automated burger joint being developed in California. This thing does all the prep, all the cooking, all the cleaning and handles the cash with no humans. AI and robotics are the wave of the future and will eliminate 47% of employment positions over the next generation. Minimum wage laws will accelerate the push to automate those jobs.

Automation is more productive and cost effective.. it's the way of the future and will always replace manpower.
I love the fact that automation is becoming so advanced to make a customers experience more enjoyable, and a quicker response.
It will make better business sense.
It just seems that way when you look west. I can assure you that we don't live ON the mountains. We live on the other side of them.
