Mini earthquakes rock Vancouver Island

Vancouver Sun

Published: Wednesday, August 27, 2008
Vancouver Island was rocked by at least 15 earthquakes and aftershocks over an 18-hour period ending on Wednesday afternoon.
The largest earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.2, shook the coastal waters 195 kilometres southwest of Port Hardy at 1:17 p.m. The centre of the quake was 10 kilometres deep.

If you live on the westcoast I would recommend earthquake insurance for homeowners (probably good to have anywhere). One of these days or years the big one will come.

Vancouver Island
200 km west of the Island.... Isn't that about where underwater volcanic activity has been noted?

Port Hardy is on the east side, so 195 kl, west takes in all of the island south and west of Port Hardy, then whatever is left would be ocean. Don't know how far it is across the island up there.
My daughter is fishing right now at cougar creek, which seems to be much nearer the
center of the earthquake than I would like it to be.
