Lot of truth in that, JLM. Where once are road were efficiently maintained, we now wait years for improvements and don't let me get started on snow removal after blizzards! Maintaining the verges of highways is another thorn in my side especially out here where the weeds grow so high deer can hide in them jumping out at inopportune times for both driver and deer. Privatization works in certain areas but it hasn't done a darn thing for road maintenance. BTW, JLM........do you remember the name of the Minister of Highways under the old Socred gov? - that is one guy who knew what proper highway upkeep was all about.

Phil Gaglardi, way back in the old W.A.C. Bennett era, but more recently Alex Fraser. Our highways crews used to take pride in the condition of the highways.

Not necessarily. Walter is still here.

Don't want to piss you off, Nick but actually Walter is more sensible than many on here! (He's another curmudgeon from the old school who don't spend money he don't have)

As in Canada where there are two left of centre parties and the right of centre party wins elections, the same would happen in the States because I have trouble seeing any difference in the established parties there; both of them are moving further and further left when the populace, according to Gallup, is moving right.

Hannity: "It May Be Time For A New Conservative Party In America" | RealClearPolitics

Wally, your memory is either short or selective. maybe both. WE endured many years of left leaning governments. Trouble is they leaned so far left they fell off the political spectrum while the population stayed more or less in the muddle.

15 years ago it was the other way around. I doubt the current situation is set in stone. These things can and do change quickly all the time.

Walter the world is about to be confronted with money problems and when
the people find out governments like Harper have spent even more money
than Trudeau a huge shakeup is coming. The present right of center parties
spent the money on tax cuts and advantages for the wealthy and there is
nothing to show for it. The left is about to have a new day in the sun like it or
not.

Ummmmmmmm Grumpy, we need a little clarification there. I'm not wealthy by any means, actually right near the middle I'd guess but the wife and I have benefitted immensely from Harper's tax cuts so it's not only the rich. Could you provide the link to where all this money is being spent? (Apart from the likes of dear Pammy and Mikey, who should both be in jail) -:)

There is no freedom without good government. Throughout history it has been the owners of capital and the owners of land that have held the commoners captive. Only government can control business, and people can only control government. The right wing agenda is to place government in the control of business at which point business once again has a monopoly on control, like in the middle ages. Canada's strength is its constitutional emphasis on peace, order and good government. If you are comfortable living with none of the above, move to America.

I suspect I'm both better educated and older than you, but neither age nor education matter. What matters is the sense inherent in your ideas. Yours seems pretty sad. By the sounds of it you are unable to attribute any opinion not expressed in terms of partisan low-speak.

Ah, good ol' predictable, reliable Walter. All you have to do is tell him something he doesn't know and he'll slap a red one on you.

Heey hey, Walt's ideas on how to keep the Democrats permanently in power make Boss Tweed look like mickey mouse for sheer duplicity. And I figured him for a right winger, too.

Cool Anarchist , he had us all fooled. Fess up.
that Walt...
