Pretty much. Though I would add the caveat that race for some people pushes them to be assholes and criminals so it can't be discounted. And then it's the age of "Clickbait", so throwing in the "White" into the story will draw people in. Other headlines I saw looking the story up didn't mention the guy's race at all, just called it "biased motivated".

But overall, yeah, asshole and criminal.
We agree, and I agree it's clickbait. I also disagree with "bias motivated" crimes. The proper place for assessing and punishing motive is in the sentencing judge, not the legislature.

I've never heard of the term "Bias motivated crimes" before; usually I've only heard it as "Racially motivated" and whatnot.

True, though it is up to the legislature to stipulate what would be unlawful to the general public based on social conditions and the will of society, isn't it?

They expanded "racially motivated" to "bias motivated" because it turns out that people are assholes about a variety of differences and groups.

Nope. It's up to the legislature to criminalize certain actions and provide a range of sentences. It's up to the judge to decide where on the scale a specific defendant lies.
