I recently paid off the last of my british debts. Having debts in more than one country really is a pain. My loan contract had a clause in it which said it had to be paid from a british account so I had to keep a current account there and make a fraudulent paypal account so I could take money out of my account here, put it into the canadian paypal account, pay myself in britain for a a fictitious item, then transfer the money from the british paypal and into the british current account and THEN pay my loan.

I'm very glad that's over.

Hey, Hermmantrude; Okay now, let's see. You owed money in the UK, and you live in Canada, and did all this dancin just to payem. Good for you . An honest man...................But, if you had e.mailed them and said.........."mehhhhhh don't think I will honour my contract", would they have had the UK equivalent of Dog the Bounty Hunter come and getcha, or would they have said,,,,,,,,,,"uh, Herm; ah, if you want to pay us just by Cdn postal money order or personal cheque, or in pennies even,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,that's ok?"

Or would they have had their Cdn. agents instigate collection and sue you in Canada. Could they?

Moot point cause it's paid, just askin as I don't know, and would like to.

Thanks,

not sure, old fellow. I expect they'd get upset, send letters to my old adresses which may or may not have been forwarded to me, then if they hadn't got anything they may have taken up the services of some collection company or other.

I really did feel the need to pay those debts, though. When I phoned them to ask how was the best way to pay they told me I should send my mother cheques and she could pay from her account, but they would accept anything that came from Canada directly.

Banks can be funny like that, especially in the UK. When my wife arrived in the UK and started her job she went a few months without getting paid because her workplace could only pay by direct debit, but she couldn't get a bank account in the UK without having proof of address and all they would accept was a utility bill. The staff at the bank cared so little they actually had her in tears.

I don't know if any of you have seen little britain? There's a sketch which sums up the attitude nicely. Someone comes in, requests something simple enough and the girl behindthe counter randomly hacks at her computer, stares gormlessly for a while and then turns to the customer and says "computer says no" and then coughs with her mouth open

Sort of seems like you messed with your credibility (thus, creditworthiness) by admitting to fraud to pay off a creditor. Think I'd have gone Nugg's way and if they won't set up east terms, you give an ultimatum. When you're a paying debtor, you sort of have them by the short and curlies....

Ive made it my personal agenda to see that Ski dies a broken and bankrupt man.

Ok maybe not, but the folks at WalMart, Penningtons, Staples, and Avon know me by my first name.

LOL. Okay... if it's the people at those place who know you by name, you can't be spending too much of his money, compared to the women who are known by first name at high end fashion boutiques, custom stationers, and Eviline Charles, etc.

You sound like a woman out to get the most for his dollar. No man dare complain about that (you hear me ski!?)

I used to be obsessed about paying off debts.

But then I realized I could make a lot more money than I'm charged interest, so now I don't worry about it too much.

Which probably means I'm in denial....
