Slippery slope arguments are bull ****.

Because you say so? I don't share that opinion. My personal view is that every single right has be fought for, tooth and nail.

So many of the people upset about this are not actually focusing on the specific issue at hand. They are going on about government infringement in general, not the merits of this particular issue.

It's a proposed infringement of an existing constitutional right. From my point of view, the fact that it is an incremental infringement is not relevant.

As for this specific case, if drunk driving were a growing problem that resisted solutions through lawful means, then perhaps I could be swayed. As it is, drinking and driving rates have steadily decreased for teh last two decades. An escalation of consitutional infringements is not called for, in my opinion.

It is not about getting drunks off the road, it is about manipulating the law so it becomes a cash cow for governments. As long as the legal limit is .08 then handing out expensive suspensions for blowing below that amount is a form of robbery. Actually armed robbery and grand theft auto.

It puts me in mind of cities that keep long stretches of divided, 3 lane highway, with no intersections or homes, at low speed limits. It's a cash cow to keep the limit lower than people naturally feel safe driving.

If it were truly about keeping drunks off the roads cops would sit outside bars at closing time and test everyone that opened a car door.
