OK, it's a communist country where the government has decided to let WalMart in. By the way, I'm going back to China this Tuesday and guess what! I'll probably buying some cleaning supplies from the local Walmart there in the next week. So I suppose you'd better boycatt Walmart for sleeping with the Commie devil. Oh, and don't forget McDonald's, KFC, Pizza Hut, Kodak, Fuji Film, Toyota, Ford, IBM, Air Canada, Aeroflott, UPS, and a host of other co-conspirators! :D

I don't know about anyone else but Tsing Tao beer is good :D

It's very good beer as far as beers go. I go to Chinatown every week in Manhattan. Great food, not the yucky, greasy local town crap and what else would I drink other than Tsing Tao. The most amusing aspect of it is that the waiters don't speak a word of English, you're basically pointing on the menu and the write down the order in Chinese 8O It's hilarious, I love it.

I remember a restaurant in Beijing where the back wall was a wall of aquariums and cages...if you wanted fish, you picked out the fish you wanted......(similar to what we do with lobster). The unsettling part were the snakes, birds, and rabbits.....just something we aren't used to.

We didnt wonder far from our hotel at Chiangkuomenlu (the Champsallesee of beijing). A morning walk around and behind the hotel quickly showed a contrast of 5 star and poverty of communal living. Rabbits, escargots are eaten in Europe.. France, UK. SAR started with wild civets on dining plates. I read in travel forums that live monkey brains supposedly a delicacy - a table with a hole at the centre, a live monkey head clamped underneath.

First things first:

China is not a Communist state. Communism is about economic theory, not a political system.

Posters here seem to be unable to distinguish between Communism and Authoritarianism.

China is not practising Communism. It is mastering Capitalism and Authoritarianism.

And Machjo is right. CHina is more capitalistic than Canada or America. Chinese people are more entrepreneurial and risktaking than any layabout Canadian with a social safety net is.

Now, in the future, don't get Communism and Authoritarianism confused. They are two different fish.

Speaking of Fish...

My favourite dining experience in China was when I sat at a restaurant table near the fish tanks. SOmeone ordered a fish. The cook was obliged to heave a 20 pounder out of the tank. The fish flopped about on the floor. The cook had to bash it on the head about ten times with a heavy mallet before the thing died. It took about ten minutes.

AAH...China.

Egads...I am not Chinese.

I vote in Canadian Elections.

Maybe the neegative replies about communism in China are based more on antiquated Racist attitudes than any real understanding of the modern world's changing political landscape.

China vs Canada

China is up and rising, very intelligent and smart people.
They take action and dont pinder and ponder like most Canadians do.
That is why they are achieving results while Canada sits on the back burner.
The difference between average & success is the ability to take action.

Who's this General Pinder? Is he a communist, too?

Mr Mom is obviously grossly ill informed about China, but that puts him squarely in the majority. Maybe he could be President of the US one day.
