It was easier back in the day...

I have technical diplomas coming out of my *** and relevant job experience and just to find a job in one of the fields i'm qualified for has been arduous... I'm still trying though

So you're against all social programs? I know you're not, but that's the grammar of your sentence.

Honestly, you old people seem to have no knowledge of any experience outside your own, which is probably why you think you had it tough while actual facts show that establishing yourself financially was a cakewalk compared to what young people have to deal with today.

I'm a millennial in Vancouver. You just told me to look at the stuff I have in my house compared to 40 years ago. For one, I wasn't even alive 40 years ago. I can't look around my house and see all my stuff because I don't have a house. You might look around at your peers and see gigantic houses full of stuff, but I can't.

Sorry Corduroy, I was speaking in general terms, comparing what I see today to what I saw 40 - 60 years ago. Of course there will be exceptions. I'm NOT against a guaranteed income but I am against it for someone who can work. I know a little bit about welfare in B.C. as a family member was on it for a few months due to severe illness when he was prevented from work under doctor's orders. Welfare in B.C. is no picnic. Thank God he's fairly health again and back to work at his old job. Anyway what I'm say is people should get a guaranteed income, if they have 3 doctors' signatures attesting to the fact they can't work.

I personally don't have an opinion just yet on this.

Need more research.

I'll tell you what it would do. Simple.

People would move back to Tim buck two (small towns) , buy a house for 2 cent, and live off the land while buying simple necessities.

And not bother finding a job, But simply work at sustaining themselves.

There's a lot to it, Corduroy. First of all I'm dead against GIVING people anything unless they are totally incapable of fending for themselves. Comparing things now to 40 or 50 years won't work. Just look at the stuff you have in your house now compared to 40 years ago. Why do you think we need 2200 sq. ft. of living space for 2 or 3 people compared to 800 square feet for 6 or 7 people 40 years ago? A lot of its mainly due to all the junk we've acquired. How many vehicles are parked outside the average house now compared to 40 years ago? We're caught up in a sickness that is only going to get worse.
I was with you until the last sentence.

Yeah, it's a hard pill to swallow, Walter and I would love to hear of a remedy to reverse the trend.
Why would you want to go back to impoverished times. Socialists want to do that.

I wasn't talking about going back to impoverished times. Most of us didn't feel particularly impoverished 50 years - we were just as happy with what we had them as we are happy or (less happy) with what we have now & we weren't struggling under the debt then. If you've been paying attention to the news lately, you would have heard how household debt is growing in leaps and bounds. People are letting the banks do their thinking for them more and more every year.

Why would you want to go back to impoverished times. Socialists want to do that.

Socialists don't want to go back to impoverished times. They just want to be rich on someone else's money! :) :)

The Liberal Party of Canada and their supporters are rapidly becoming purveyors of a Cult of Personality.

Too frickin' weird.

I like these people even less than I thought I would.

I don't think they have a clue about what they are doing. Bet the deficit will be $60 billion by this time next year. Fort McMurray is a little beyond his control but the bill for the refugees is clearly his responsibility.
