Left wing haste and wrecking ball

Have you noticed that on issues, easily demonstrated by most threads on this website, the left wing standard MO is one of haste then a race to an extreme reaction often advocating taking a wrecking ball to an existing system.

For example. It is not enough to say Canada needs to increase their intake of refugees. The left usually says "OMG! Somethings needs to be done right away and the only possible way to make it happen is if we pull out all the stops and safe guards. Lets take a wrecking ball to our immigration policies for the next 3 months."

Probably one of the biggest problems with this is their inability to have an intelligent and rational discussion once they have worked themselves into a frenzy.

Your thoughts on this?

Unfortunately, political correctness is sorely lacking in patience, depth, detailed analysis, nuance...etc.

It's all about who can point their finger first and shriek "THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!"...without really understanding the greys, or pertinent points of an issue.

(My 2 cents on the progressive agenda)

You may have posted this on the wrong website.

Based on all the refugee threads on CC there is only one person advocating unfettered access to Canada ............

You're not interested in discussion, just in spreading your propaganda.

I think the OP makes a good point...

Much easier to get hysterical and demand radical overhauls, than to take the time to fully understand the complexities of certain issues.

I think that's where he was going with this thread.

Complexity escapes 95% of our population. Our leadership must constantly seek simple popular solutions. Its how you succeed at representing a simple minded politically correct obsessive population.

Yep, and the right wing is "Oh, the only way to deal with terrorist threats is to ban all Muslims from coming to Canada ever, and expelling the ones who are here!"

I don't know if it's modern telecommunications or what, but it seems like leaping to extremes and howling, never giving an inch, is the modus operandi. Oh, that and accusing the "other side" of doing it and pretending "your side" is the voice of reason.

Oddly enough, I've witnessed knock it down and build your own monument to stupidity common in both directions ... and little minds making big things about it

I have too. 95% of humans are no smarter then a two by four

?Maybe there’s a simpler answer: there are more extreme leftists than extreme conservatives, and the extreme lefties really and truly believe that the average Canadian is destroying society . There just aren’t that many conservatives who believe the same thing about Canadians. The truth is that the Canadian right is basically pretty moderate. If you want an explanation for why conservatives don’t have the same apocalyptic approach to politics as the left, we could note that society of moderates and leftists is bound to also produce more radical leftists as well, that’s why.

Canada has been taking refugees for over a century. Some times en mass during exceptional times. Canada's immigrational policies aren't new. The hysterics over it often come from right.

Nor does a right. Perhaps if you took your tongue from your eyes and your head from your butt you'd get a relatively truthful perspective on the real world. There are wads in every crowd. Thanks for the sample....

Canada has been taking refugees from the US for well over two centuries ... since the Revolution, in fact. I am a descendant of one such group (who intermarried with another group of political refugees from Scotland). In the 1780s-early 90s around 40,000 Loyalists took refuge in Upper Canada, Lower Canada and New Brunswick. Some were political refugees, loyal the the Crown. Some were ethnic minorities driven out by a hostile local populations. Some were religiously observant and therefore refused to fight in the Revolution as their religious creed forbade them from doing so.

During the 1790's, Upper Canada outlawed enslaving new slaves. That began the early refugee movement of escaped American slaves. They landed in numbers in Nova Scotia New Brunswick and Upper Canada.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Refugee_(War_of_1812)

They even enlisted in the defence of our country during the War of 1812

The Coloured Corps: Black Canadians and the War of 1812 - The Canadian Encyclopedia

This movement continued through the nineteenth century and evolved into the Underground Railroad during the Civil War through which refugees by the thousands streamed from both the Union and Confederate states.

There were lots of other refugee groups during the nineteenth century ... Icelanders escaping starvation, Mormons from various places escaping persecution, Lakota Sioux scaping anahiliation at the hands of the U.S. Army, Jews escaping the pogroms in the schtetls of Tsarist Russia, Eastern Europeans of many ethnicities escaping the death throws of the Austria-Hungary an Empire.

... and then, we were "overwhelmed" by most of your grandparents during the 20 the century ... Brits, Belgians, East Indians, West Indians Viet... many were migrants but many were refugees. Lots of those Brits were really refugees escaping war ravaged cities, Bernardo Boys who were forced to migrate.

We are up to our armpits in Refugees. They changed our country and wrote a lot of it's history. If you don't have "Refugee" in your own background, you are likely a relative newcomer.

Thanks for that. Canada overall has a good track record at accepting refugees and immigrants. Even Harper who was successfully criticized by leftists increased our syrian refugee count by 300% from 2005 to 2013. If other countries had matched Canada's efforts there would not have been a crisis.

Why don't you just stop using 'left' and 'right', because people are all a variety of stances.

The more you use left vs right, the stupider you look.

But maybe that's what you're aiming for.
