Have a laptop and I realize that there are lots of programs out there track stolen/lost laptops . Request recommendations please.

Same for an IPad - Are there tracking programs - if so - recommendations please.

IPad has one that is an app, needless to say I do not want something a thief can easily see or find on either the laptop or IPad.

Thank you for your assistance.

Ipad has a GPS - I turned that off. There are programs that are hidden from thieves and that is what i am looking for.

A number of programs out there but I am not up to date on programs - good, bad and useless.

For my iPhone4, there is a 'findMyiPhone' app provided by Apple. Won't work on older iPhones. Not sure about iPads (iPad2 maybe).

You need a second iOS device, login to your AppleId and it will find your phone.

Northern Ontario,
I think you would need a laptop with built-in GPS if they exist....otherwise an automated email sender that would send a daily email to a specific web based email address would automatically contain the IP of the computer sending it, and the GPS co-ordinates if a notebook equipped with with a gps receiver exists.

Found the App for the Ipad - Have to work on the laptop. It should have a GPS but I get error messages.

Biggest thing for iPads,iPods and the like is to report them as stolen to Apple asap, from what Ive heard, Apple will disable that serial number if reported stolen.

I have actually heard of Apple being less than co-operative in finding your stolen iPhone or iPad. Reporting it to your carrier is probably more important.

Northern Ontario,
If you find yours, let me know how you did it.

I just found out I don't have one on my laptop running windows 7.... Go to control panel, in the control panel search box, type in "Location". If you have a gps chip and you click on "Enable location and other sensors" it should activate it....in my case it said "No sensors installed"

I have a lot of personal information on my IPod touch. But I have it set up to lock after 5 minutes and a complete wipe out of information after 10 unsuccessfull tries at a 5 character password...
The most personal info that I have on my notebook is my bookmarks.
I've gotten into the habit of cleaning it with CCleaner, every time I leave it to go anywhere.

Best anti theft device is a 12 gauge on a trip wire. Could be a little harsh on the laptop but it eliminates the possibility of a repeat offender.

My impression was that you can find your iPhone through iCloud, set a remote lock or even wipe it out (restore to factory settings) and should you get it back, you could then reinstall all your personal settings from your iCloud backup. At least this is what I read about it, recently got an iPhone 4 myself. I'm assuming that if the iPad and iPod have the most up to date operating system then they should also have those features.

The problem that I can see that should your phone be stolen or lost while it is unlocked, or if someone breaks your lock then disabling the "find my phone" setting is as simple as flipping a switch. Seems rather stupid, or am I missing something here?
